I doubt folks realize that when we dominated we were an independent team, not in a conference. When we joined the Big East we did not exactly set the world on fire or dominate. In a conference teams are build to beat the best teams they will face which may not be conducive to beating out of conference teams. Right now Clemson has a big target on their chests and we are probably the most likely team that will bear that mantel soon. FSU preceded Clemson and look at the wreck they are now, pathetic. Alabama is built to win in the SEC, Clemson destroyed them so now SEC teams will copy Clemson where a great QB (see LSU) can dominate an opponent. RIGHT NOW Diaz has the QB to dominate and is building a team around Williams. It is no accident that Jarren was as good or better then Trevor when recruited. Our running attack is not up to snuff but will be when we get these new recruits and Lingard cranked up with an OL with quality and depth. We are on the verge of greatness again IF our recruits play up to their potential, especially at RB. FIU believe it or not will test our ability to run as that is their weakness and Enos hopefully is planning to challenge their weakness not their strength which is pass defense. I expect a close game with a Canes win and also expect the naysayers to complain we should've beat them by 100 points. A win is a win by 1 or 100. Our 2001 team needed a defensive play to beat a mediocre BC team.
