Behind the U: TRob Episode

I hope this guy is here for like twenty years.....I can see by this interview alone why I would want to play for him. If I like him off an inter view camera rah rah talk I could imagine how good he is in person.

I had the complete opposite feel when I heard Rumph speak
Got to be an upgrade..pass def at USC ranked 115th in completion %, 115 in yards per pass, 94th in passing yards..maybe his backs did not get support overall....Now that his boss there Muschamp who is supposed to be a def wiz works at uga, wondered why he was not offered there...their new dB coach had good stats at W. VA.

U need the ballers....I don't know his recruiting situation over there at all. I think he will be great here if he has enough time to fill the room with elite sfla dbs. If he misses or if the trend of bama beating us for Jobes and missing on the under the radar kids....we will be screwed regardless of coaching. Carlton Davis was by far better then any cb we have had under the MR and Diaz era....and it should never be that way.

I have some sort of hope with t rob saying more bump n run so MD is pondering different ideas as of now at least. But again it's all off season rah rah till I see it on the field

We have a DB coach who has developed 1st round picks and a DL coach with NFL experience. The stuff is much better. DVD I’m not mad at because he’s a recruiter. Now can bakers bum ***.

Butch Barry was an NFL cosch. How’d that work out?

/not knocking simpson but the nfl experience isnt what makes him a solid hire, imo

Our linebackers will still suffer and u need good linebackers cause of spread rpo. I think IMO (cause some get offended) our linebackers are trash.

Butch Barry was tied to running Enos' offensive philosophy....hard to evaluate the mans OL when the OC is trying fit a square peg in a round hole. That's why we see the improvements of Zion for one because players being put in a right system matter.

I didn’t bring him up to debate him, but someone said ‘nfl coach’ re simpson as if that proves anything and my point is it obviously doesn’t, and barry is a recent example to use, but we all know there are plenty of others. Whether Barry was bad or okay and held back by Enos, his background didn’t translate to performance or recruiting.

I can dig that. I can see both sides of that coin. I just see it from the side of "Jeff Thomas" wasn't productive really at all with Enos, but I think we can all agree that he would've been VERY productive with Lashlee. But again, both sides have merit as the "positive example" vs "negative example".

I don’t agree with the Thomas analogy for two reasons.

First, because playing and coaching are different and the comment here that I responded to was about whether nfl background means anything for a coach or not. I’m saying not. It could help but there are plenty of failed coaches and guys who can’t recruit. There are guys in the NFL who are good coaches but just hate recruiting. And there are guys who just don’t translate.

Second, I do not agree with the prevailing assumption that Jeff Thomas was Randall Hill but for Dan Enos. I think this board has lost its mind on Thomas, and I was a big believer when he got here. Fast, some talent sure, but being an effective WR in big time cfb or the nfl requires my than potential. You have to do the work, know your assignments, block, and generally be part of a team. He didn’t do his part well enough and ended up quitting. Enos sucked so I assume all players on O would be better without him, but no way do I assume Thomas would have benefitted more than everyone else from a better OC. Thomas’s deficiencies are what messed with him and I don’t blame Enos for them.

Great insight on how he got to Miami, coaching philosophies, and his background.

That was a great interview.
First time I've seen or heard in-depth interview at this level, by a Miami media guy. Josh Darrow really did his homework, credit to him and kudos to Travaris for giving a great interview. He sounds like a keeper.

What an interview! This guy is going to crush it here, will be night and day from the previous 10+ years. T-Rob just has the IT factor, no wonder he's such a good recruiter and coach. Also, love how he's excited to work with DVD and sees DVD as a young T-Rob. LFG!
Me too, especially the dvd part, reminds me of what coach rumph said about dj ivey!
