Behind the U: TRob Episode

Great interview. You don't have to be a genius to realize this guy can sell

Interested to see how he does with developing the younger guys.. specifically Couch, Clarke and Dunson at CB
👆The avatar of this man meams business.

A force to be reckoned with.

T Rob sounds terrific to me. Thoughtful, smart, honest, direct, personable. It's just an interview but it has me jazzed up to see what he can do.
He's a natural. Makes it easy to see why he's had so much success recruiting (and coaching of course). It's almost like Manny said 'Hey TRob, go jump on this podcast. The fanbase needs a little convincing.' Like he was recruiting all of us who were listening and his pitch worked.

Yeah especially a guy like ivey who's big and strong with average speed. It's a disservice to not let him play bump n run. Now we'll have 3 corners who are 6-0 plus 195 plus a coach who'll teach them to be physical. Even with stevenson I think couch is our best cb followed by stevenson, blades then ivey. Should be a better g improvement
I agree with everything except the couch comment. I think the bowl game showed he has a lot of work to do but he’s talented, doesn’t back down, and will hopefully get better.
Not a knock on couch at all, but I don’t think he’s our #1

If people can't understand some of our moves defensively THIS SEASON were strongly affected by a massive loss in revenues then I don't know what to tell you.

This interview debunked the "Manny only wants yes men" stupidity and showed we likely allocated limited funds to address our most glaring needs.

Baker and Rumph will be gone after their contracts expire and it made logical sense to keep them in some capacity if we didn't have the means THIS SEASON to pay a top flight DC.

Weird that that’s your concern out of all the interesting parts of a 50 min interview...and made it a negative....

Meanwhile Kluber took less money to sign with the Yankees and Yankee fans think that’s a good thing....
I commented that as I was listening. Not my entire take away from the interview.

Comparing anything we do financially to the Yankees is just dumb. They can pay what they want and they over pay more than anyone historically. The quote just stuck with me because it’s typical Miami. Even in my quote I said “it’s good for us” - just concerning that it had to come down to that and for him to throw it out there like that in the first 5 min of his first interview..

Listening to the TRob interview and how he described the negative recruiting of Miami, I‘m now more upset with Manny and Richt for keeping Rumph on staff. TRob’s personality and success putting players in the league wins against Rumph every time for the same recruit. Yet he was retained for years knowing he was loosing the recruiting battles. TRob made it clear top fight recruits want to play in the league.

It's not out of the realm of possibilities for a savvy recruiter to tell a little white lie that makes his competition look bad.

And I thought the initial word from our insiders was that UM "opened the checkbook" for the T-Rob hire? Hmmm...

All of these can be true. No one said we got him cheap. Just less than what UF offered, IF that's even true as you alluded to. We could have gotten him for $5k less. He might have just not pushed it.

We got him for less, yet it’s negative... you took to Miami is cheap and borrowed trouble saying Miami likely missed out on coaches because of it....amidst a super positive interview

Those dumb, slow developing blitzes.

The inability to cover TEs and the middle of the field.

There's lots.

Are you saying his D isn't gimmicky and he's an elite D Coordinator?

Those "dumb, slow developing blitzes" are effective. We haven't finished outside of the top 5 nationally in tackles for loss since Manny arrived, and between 2017 and 2019 no other defense produced as many sacks.

Also, we literally led the country in every meaningful pass defense statistic in 2018. If Manny's D were so inept at covering the middle of the field then why didn't every team we played in 2018 exploit that?

Sold. I liked the hire to begin with an technically didn’t need to be sold but after listening to the interview I am ready to use my first year of eligibility to go play for him.

**Side Note: I am of course kidding as I am 40 and still in the Army but **** he could sell ketchup popsicles in the summer time to a lady wearing white gloves.

Excellent interview! I'm beginning to see that while we all wish that Manny was more cutthroat like the SEC coaches, there's benefits to actually giving a hoot about how you treat the guys you work with. Manny is doing it differently than most of us think he should, but a poster showed the last several hires and he's just about hit on every one of them since Lashlee. TRob seemed to connect with Manny and maybe it's just me but it sounded like it was because of who the dude was and how he treats people, he didn't go into specifics of course but he sort of referenced that it's a bit shady in the coaching business and he's learned that it matters who you surround yourself with in regards to character etc....that ultimately sounded like what got us TRob over UF and others (he also mentioned that Manny kept his word on other things such as calling back when he said he would etc). That endorsement of Manny could very well likely bring us TWill if he's still available by time Baker leaves (if he leaves before 2021 season).

Idk boys, that interview has changed my perspective a little bit on wishing Manny would just can a guy immediately after a game, such as the UNC game, because I was on Twitter like everyone else lol.....it matters how you treat guys and their families. Ultimately I do think Baker is out before the season starts and we hire a LB coach and Manny runs the 2021 DEF before deciding on the DC situation.

Just my take and a half of the TRob interview.

I hope this guy is here for like twenty years.....I can see by this interview alone why I would want to play for him. If I like him off an inter view camera rah rah talk I could imagine how good he is in person.

I had the complete opposite feel when I heard Rumph speak
