Beyond the obvious shortcomings with Miami’s offense, former UM and NFL linebacker Jon Beason has identified another problem that he believes is hurting the Hurricanes:

He apparently believes some players do not care enough.

“It has to matter to you more; you don’t see that,” Beason said after calling in WQAM’s UM postgame show Saturday night.

“It has to trickle down from the head man,” Beason told Danny Rabinowitz and former UM punter Brian Monroe in a lengthy soliloquy.

“I’ve got to see a little more passion. It bothers me. There has to be more of a sense of urgency. When you show up, it has to matter to you more. That embarrassment [of losing 38-3 to Clemson in last December’s Atlantic Coast Conference championship] should be there and it’s not.

“I don’t want to finger point, but the way you move, your body language [matter]. Guys with blank [looks] on the sideline.”

Beason also is bothered by players posting upbeat messages on social media after a loss.

“They will post tonight; they will post tomorrow,” he said. “They will be happy. It will be OK with them. It won’t hurt them. To former players, [losing drives them] to tears. It’s bothersome. It’s not what it should be [with these players].”

But Beason said, “you can’t do **** thing about 18 to 22 year olds ... You’ve got to find somebody that can lead. I’m talking about rep in, rep out, how you go about preparing and watching film. All that stuff matters. To be able to hold guys accountable, that’s the difference.”

He suggested players should be asking themselves: “What are you trying to do? What are you trying to accomplish, are you trying to be the very best you can individually? How do you train? How you show up Saturdays? Are you making the guy next to you better?”

Nevertheless, Beason said: “I think we have the right guy at the helm in terms of Mark Richt and we’re very talented on paper. Why aren’t we winning?”

He said he could understand UM being beaten by elite teams. But “BC? Virginia? Duke? You have got to be kidding me. I believe in the staff and direction but enough is enough. You can’t lose to teams you’re supposed to beat.

“You can’t run back-to-back draw plays down by 8 at your 50 yards line [in the final minute]. You can’t do that. There can’t be this self serving, politically correct answers after the game. You lost to Duke! This is not basketball!”

Every thing you need to know about Richt was seen in the last 5 minutes of the BC loss. Miami was down by 2 scores but for all intent and purpose had given up surrendering to defeat.

Richt just stood there with no expression a beaten man. A young fiery coach coaches until the very last second, whatever the circumstances may be, bc he doesn't want that attitude to be set into the team. Mork did nothing, waiting to until the final seconds rang off.

This social media crap has to end.

The article also states that McKennie has offered to come in several days a week to help coach the OL....ouch. Hope Richt takes him up on it.

i posted a thread titled "Missing the Obvious ?"

Miami's problem is simple .... Richt has lost the team and they aren't playing all out for him. ray charles could see this

What about Richt? He's barely coaching bro. That 4 min drive was the pits. No urgency, at all.

So they have no other choice but to endorse. Beason on one hand says we have the right guy, but then calls out his plays and questions the leadership. lol.

exactly. He doesn't want to say everything that is on his mind. It doesn't matter if they signed off or not. The 5 BOT members who wield the most power, the search firm, and our AD are responsible for this current situation. We had guys on the inside trying to make the steer the ship away from Richt but that didn't happen.

Jon had better watch it. The cis crowd is gonna say "you can't trash kids" smh at this mess.

:snoopfacepalm:
I don't like posters and coaches trashing kids but former players like Jon have both the right and the duty to do just that. Thing is when kids act that way, it comes from above so you cannot give Mark a pass.

He's spot on but those dudes are rare these days. Like Deion Sanders said, these kids would rather be liked and fit in than stand out and really love something.

Its bizarre that the players who "don't care", are "soft", etc happen to only be on the offense. So odd.

Or its the defense is properly coached, players are put in positions to succeed and the offense is being coached by one of the worst OCs in CFB.

So I agree with about 50% of what he is saying.

Maybe they don’t care bc they know they aren’t put in position to succeed

Where as the defense cares bc they know they will be put in a position to succeed

I don't mind people calling out players. Calling out Feagles (or any other player) should be a challenge to the guy to get better, not an excuse to sulk because he was criticized by the fans. Same goes for every other player.

Everyone here knows that the responsibility for the performance of the team falls on the coaches. That's an immutable fact. But, that doesn't relieve players from their responsibility to put forth the effort and improve themselves as a player. It's not an "either-or" thing. It's coaches and players. Everyone should be called out. The only guy you can fire is Richt. But, it's overly simple to point the finger in only one direction.

Starts at the top!! Richt is the cause is this crap !! A veteran coach like that should not be running a crappy program like this under no circumstances! Last two coaches only dreamed about having access to the resources and players he has now! #gethimouttahere

You have a point.
