Beard....OUT?

again, did Beard bring anything to miami other than his connection to Sam Bruce?

we will upgrade at the WR coaching position also.

This.

There was nothing particularly special about Beard that made me feel he needed to be retained. If anything, I'm all for Richt continuing to distance himself from the former regime.

It seemed like most of people on this board that wanted him brought back were dolts that didn't feel he possessed any coaching acumen, but wanted to hang onto Sam Bruce.

These are the same people that argued that Golden leaving for Penn State a few years back would hurt the program because it would decimate our recruiting class. You don't retain any coach at any position for the sake of recruiting, end of story.

Nope the guy can coach, we need to hire a big name at the position

Curtis Johnson and Billy Napier would both be superior hires. This is probably a good thing.

Some people are missing the point. The WR coach is most likely going to be co offensive coordinator and will be in charge with installing the game plan. Richt already has a young coach in Thomas brown, he probably didn't want 2 inexperienced guys running the offense during practice. So regardless of how the receivers improved (which they did, I think beard will be a solid WR coach somewhere), richt couldn't take a chance on another young guy. That's just my take on it.

I agree. If Richt didn't strike out on Lilly I think Beard is retained no doubt.

Does this affect Stacy Coley staying? I sure hope not. I don't see the point in declaring only to be a 3rd round pick

Interested to get the reason and facts as why Curtis Johnson would be a bad hire? Not trolling as I am very curious. Great staffs all have former and future HCs on staff. Would love to get some feedback on this. Thanks

Funny how the board has been up in arms about Banda and Rumph but couldnt' fathom the idea of losing beard who as an assistant HS coach before this.

Beard has done a solid job but let's not forget, stacy coley was the #3 wr in the country coming out of high school and had a huge year before beard was even there. Waters and Scott played well but not enough to imply that Beard would have done more than an experienced coach coming in

Assuming that whoever the coach is, he's likely still coaching right now or else he'd already have been hired. Napier would make sense.

Generalize much? All three of them have no business coaching here.

What's actually funny is the cats who wanted him gone, but celebrated hiring Hartley, Rumph, and Panda who have just as little experience.

I do feel bad for beard though, hopefully he land on his feet somewhere I thought he coached well last year, probably the best out of all of the coaches outside of Larry scott

Complete overhaul of the coaching staff.
Somewhat uncommon. Usually someone is kept.
But we have been average at best for the last ten years so it's time to start over.

No I'm not. he was horrible recruiting in his last years in Miami he was horrible at recruiting wide receivers at Tulane they had 3 scholarship receivers on the team this past year in his fifth year as head coach which is impossible to do if you cry. He was widely he needed in the New Orleans high school football community. Sean Payton brought in an assistant wide receiver coach in his last year's with the Saints because he didn't trust him enough I could go on and on and on about why he would not be a good hire

"he was horrible recruiting in his years in Miami"

That's not entirely true.
He was very good under Butch both recrutiing and coaching.
As a matter of fact he was one of the best recruiters of Butch staff.
The players he produded during that time speaks for it self.
He did tail off during Coker's tenure...that's true.
BUT I would venture to say all position groups did.

Would be nice if Ariz would comment on his own site once in awhile instead of focusing just on Twitter

Mark Richt called WR coach Kevin Beard after 9 a.m. today to tell him he's "going in another direction," Beard told me.
