"Be a cheeseburger"

Wow! Didn’t realize it was tied to consistency.... thought it was Al’s & Dorito’s nutritional program!!!

The difference between Dabo and Golden was resources and the ability to be a complete scumbag. If Golden was a heartless person, he would most likely still be the coach at Miami, because he would have jettisoned the dead weight of D'Onofrio, and held his staff accountable. That was what was missing with Al. He was loyal to a fault, and there's no room for that in a leadership role. Dabo has no ethics, he just wants to get results. Even with that personality, people forget how close Dabo was to being unemployed had Chad Morris not come along. Clemson was treading water, and then Chad came along and really made things happen for the program.

I know it is common on this board to pretend that Golden didn't do anything, but Richt wasn't able to come in and win 9+ games his first two seasons had Golden not accomplished something. He never took the next step, but the dude did get some things done in regards to bringing the program into the 21st century. He ultimately failed, but his tenure was far different than the Coker and Shannon years which were unmitigated disasters.

Holy ****, a unicorn! A well-informed, rational post on CIS!!!

This dude gets it. Well said, man.

Holding people accountable doesn't make you a scumbag, it makes you responsible.

And please stop confusing loyalty with cronyism.

LOL...and we actually have people defending that bull$h!t.

Where did anyone defend Golden? I know that for the less intelligent, the world can only be seen in black and white, but few things are truly that simple. Golden lacked the ability to separate loyalty from doing what needed to be done. That is what sunk him, because eventually people saw through him and his pitch.

You have to be heartless when it comes to modern collegiate athletics. Whether it is cutting bait with assistants or flat out lying to recruits to get them in the door(Or looking the other way when stars do things that most of us would consider scummy), you have to be a bit of a sociopath in order to succeed. It's not an accident that there are few, and I mean few elite coaches that you could say are solid human beings. There are a lot of bull**** artists, and flat out scumbags roaming about. Golden, by all intents and purposes was a decent guy, but he just lacked the temperament to be the kind of coach the Miami program needs.

Didn't say you defended Golden.

And again, firing people that aren't good at their jobs isn't ruthless, it's simply business...cronyism & nepotism isn't ethical if the beneficiary sucks at their job.

Golden kept D'Onofrio because D'Onofrio did exactly what He wanted Him to do, they both thought that garbage *** defense was effective...had nothing to do with loyalty.

Cheeseburgers are wildly inconsistent. Sometimes the cheese is centered perfectly, while other times there is more cheese on the wrapper than the burger. We just happened to get the cheeseburger with no meat, and cheese half eaten by the fat dude behind the counter. Wait, it was Coach No D behind the counter!! Dang it, why didn't we see this before?
