Obviously our beloved CANES beat BCC and FAU, and they looked a bit sloppy at times doing it. Yes, there are definite areas of concern, but the team is 2 and 0. I know that most everyone thought we would be 2 and 0 at this point, with the exception of a few so called "Canes fans" who are actively rooting for the team to loose so that another coach can be hired. I will not root for losses, I will continue to support this years CANES team, and that includes the coaches. That does not mean I agree with everything that the coaches do, I just will not actively trash them. I know that most CANES fans, myself included, are not fans of the defensive scheme that is currently being deployed, but they have forced 7 turnovers and got 7 sacks in the first two games (one turnover was on special teams). I would love to see an attacking style 4-3 defense like we have had in years past, the kind of defense that forces teams to make mistakes, rather than waiting for them to make mistakes. As for the offense I am not a fan of some of the play calling, like the bubble screens which all to often loose yardage or maybe manage a yard or two, but the offense has scored 89 points (44.5 PPG), gained over 900 yards (452 YPG), 484 yards passing on 39 completions (12.4 YPC) and 420 yards rushing on 70 attempts (6.0 YPC) in the first two games. Of course I know the level of competition was less than stellar obviously, but still these statistics are pretty good.
Of course now the question is, will the CANES be able to raise their level of play to compete against better competition. The CANES will get that opportunity on Saturday the 19th when Nebraska comes to town.
I would like to ask everyone if you were the coach, what three things would you work on for offense and three things on defense in preparation for the game against Nebraska? Please refrain from bashing the coaches, players and the administration. Just focus on what you would do as head coach of the CANES.
On offense, I would definitely focus on improving the blocking for the offensive line to provide better rushing lanes and make sure they protect Kaaya. Obviously, I would work on third downs conversions and definitely change up the play calling quite a bit.
On defense, I would focus on getting more pressure on the QB, shutting down the run game and tackling, tackling and more tackling.
I know that there will be a few snarky remarks and I fully expect to get ridiculed and bashed for my post, but I am hoping that there will at least be a few fans that will at least put a bit of effort into their follow up post and be constructive. So, here to looking forward to your follow up posts and lets support our CANES as the take on Nebraska. GO CANES.
