Rumor Baylor HC Job is enticing to Dawson

I could be wrong, but I think Baylor's OC Spavital comes from Dawson's tree. This may be an issue for Dawson if he covers this job. They should consider the interim HC Klanderman who i believe has done a good job in Waco and who has a nice resume from his Kansas State and North Dakota State days.
Jake Spavital is another in a long line of Todd Graham disciples.

The 2nd largest Coaching Tree in modern CFB.

Why do you say he wouldn’t mesh? He has been very balanced since his days at Fordham. Star in the making (and has been for a while), imo.
Lot of uptempo, he's spreading the field extremely wide, extremely relying on individual matchups and angles.

Not necessarily a ball-control-style of offense and it's volatile. Not saying it wouldn't fit with Miami and how we recruit, but Mario is Mario and he has his style of a football that won't leave.
I don’t know. Mario is evolving and Decker has shown me the ability to be multiple. He would be at the top of my personal board.

Side note: haven’t seen it mentioned but I haven’t been on much this week. All the podcasts are talking about Lincoln Riley to Baylor as a soft landing. Apparently the agents are all putting that out there. He is all but gone at USC, who will probably finish 7-5. Baylor and Texas Tech are both good landing spots for him if he wants to work next season.

We have two coordinators who are just that and are comfortable with it.

Things change but I said it last year. It’s going to take a premium gig or a fallout internally for them to leave. Especially for a HC spot because who they are.
So he's taken 4 different interviews since he's been here because he was what exactly? Why can't people be content with reality. It's okay that he's taken interviews. It's most coaches dreams to constantly progress. Why can't fans simply understand that and say if he's taking interviews he's showing us what his thoughts are.

I wouldn't be surprised if Riley goes at a high-level school to be OC to kickstart his career.

Don't think he'll go to Baylor. Not an attractive place.

NFL has been mentioned for years. Wouldn’t surprise me if he took a crack at that route.

I don't think the NFL touches him and they shouldn't.

Kliff Kingsbury is just another example of coaches who aren't able to make the translation happen. College systems are too basic. Riley is more simplistic than Kingsbury - he'd get eaten alive.

Was Kliff bad as an OC, or just as a HC? I don’t follow NFL that closely, but he did a great job with Jayden Daniels in 2024.

I’m not so sure the nfl wouldn’t touch him. These are the same front offices that took Anthony Richardson as a top 5 pick. They like the shiny toys.

I'd think twice. Mario brings in the talent he needs. Does he think he can get that in Baylor?

It never stopped Saban assistants from moving to other programs.
Good coaches tend to be ambitious people who want to consistently prove themselves.

I agree. Curiosity is going to present when in an industry like coaching, promotional opportunities are earned through countless hours and often times success. I get it.

I feel very comfortable saying sans an absolutely ideal situation or a major fallout, they will stay here. I say that as we all know plenty of guys jump at less than ideal situations and those two aren’t those guys.

I don't think you'll see major poaching until we bring home a trophy. Then all ****'s going to break loose and the Board of Trustees is going to have to start spending huge coin for solid Assistants again.
You're so absolutely clueless about what we're spending on assistants I don't even know where to begin to start
I’d much rather us keep these guys for awhile. If we’re at the point where Dawson and Heatherman are happy to be here, then I’m fine being clueless. I just don’t want to be outbid.

I highly doubt Baylor hires Dawson.

Their primary criteria that they're looking for is a Coach with Central & East Texas roots for recruiting purposes.

Dawson obviously has history in Texas from his time at SFA & Houston, but he's more of a Louisiana man.

He certainly will be a candidate on their list of names, but I would imagine, GJ Kinne, Jeff Traylor, Phil Longo, Todd Whitten, Mack Leftwich & Sean Brophy will all be heavily in contention for the job as well.

It really just depends on what Baylor's vision is for the future & how committed they are to NIL budget.

They're not in an impossible spot to be turned around as a program. All they really need is the right HC-QB pairing & they can be right there competing with OK ST, Utah & Houston for the Big XII.
Good point. Also would imagine they want head coaching experience

Brother he interviewed. That's not a curiosity thing. You don't take an interview out of curiosity for numerous reasons. but he interviewed & both schools chose to go elsewhere with coastal Carolina and Tulane last season. He's linked to several different jobs this season including NC State. Each time he's been passed up because ( in my opinion at least )he's not exactly exuding personality. Most head coaches have something about them that people can resonate to. I'm not sure I see that in Dawson. BUT won't even lie. I'm definitely not the closest with them. We've had several conversations that in total lasted no more than 30 minutes I'd say.

I don’t think a Baylor or nc state were to hire Dawson but what if a Texas st or utsa were to open up? Wonder if his salary here vs a lower tier school like Texas st is the same ? You think he’d jump to a school like that? Hes got it made here, recruit a single position and have a great OL and playmakers surround you. And I don’t know if he has the recruiting acumen to be a head coach

we can't classify jobs like we used to. now if there is a financial commitment and alignment with the administration you could win. see (UCLA, UK, Indiana, BYU). Baylor could be a great job if they have things set up for the next guy.
