Battle For WR3

I think it is safe to say Toney being the best player in CFB is WR1, and Barkate already having timing with Mensah and going for over 1k yards will be WR2. It will be an absolute war between Josh Moore - my personal preference, Cam Vaughn, Dre Jacobs, and Somourian Wingo for WR3. I actually am pretty confident because we know 3 of them are really good players and Wingo is highly rated and already getting positive mentions. How do we feel the battle shakes out.
We may move Toney outside and that maybe his primary position.

Moving him around will make it hard for defenses to key in on him. He will still get touches in the slot but next year I think k he moves around a bit making the passing game more dynamic

This many options is a good thing. No need debating a top 3 as in a position to rotate & let cream rise to top.

I'm not convinced Bargate comes here and just Debo's snaps. I just watched the Cam Vaugh catches and he reminds me of Horton. Not a true burner, but someone who catches the ball well and reliable, but not an elite difference maker. Honestly Bargate and Cam Vaughn are about the same player IMO.

I still don't see that elite difference maker on the outside. We all know what Toney is, but it would be nice to have someone who scared the **** out of teams for their ability to take the top off. Imagine how much more room Toney would have to operate if we had that guy. Hoping out of Moore, Wingo, USCe Transfer we can find that person.

Cam Vaughn early favorite no doubt. Josh Moore may not be denied playtime tho. Jacobs will always get playtime because of his deep threat ability. He reminds me of a 3 point shooter in the league. Maybe he doesn’t do a ton of things well but there’s a category where he’s the best on the team. So he will play.

Upshaw is being slept on cause of the injury. But he’s solid as heck and has receiver skills and has hands

Dawson better get busy. He has so many options now. 4 wide outs, empty back field. Barkate looks like he could line up at TE. He needs to get back ups snaps as well.

Yeah after watching this I’m sold. His potential is thru the roof. He has some unique skill sets for his size. This passing game is gonna take the offense to another level. 2026 is all on the OL.

Yea Vaughn to me is going to be a problem. If he had a half decent qb last year he prob puts up 1000 yards and 10 tds. Def had potential to be an nfl receiver

The elite outside difference maker is not gonna be a portal guy. We know what they are. They are very good. The elite guy has to be wingo Paris or spafford. Problem is we may not get that this year

I'm not very high on our TEs right now. That could change over the off season.

But when I look at that WR room, I think we should be going empty set and 4 receivers early and often. Also have Mali in that T formation at RB so he can be a QB/RB/WR on any given play. We have such a strong RB room, those guys can knock guys back but also be receivers, too.

600 YPG and 45 PPG. Lots of tempo. Bro Ball in 4th quarter only when we're up by 4 scores.

I agree with you here. Hopefully Moore, Wingo, Paris.....someone develops into that guy. We'd have that much more room to operate underneath with RBs and Toney.

Maybe Moore can be that guy soon.

WR got a turnaround similar to the DB room last year. Absolutely insane.

IMO we are elite at QB, RB, WR, DL, DB. This will be the most stacked roster yet under Mario.

The OL has some questions, but I can’t see them not being a top 25 unit with Mario and Mirabal. Cantwell is a monster and will be a freshman AA. Ervin will get early PT imo. With the portal additions, recruiting class, and development of what we have had, this unit won’t disappoint.

Getting Toure back was huge for the LB room. Love the potential of Wiley, and my sleeper is Marcelin. This guy stuck is built like a tank and just has a knack for the game. Really stuck out to me on special teams. Moten was my sleeper pick last year. I’m going with Marcelin this year.

Coaches will play the best guy regardless. But add Nick Lennear to the WR group next year and sheesh. Canes about to go on a legendary run

While I agree, Vaughn also looks like a dawg. Moore had an unreal catch v Ole Miss on a ball thrown way behind him. I also really like how Vaughn separates from defenders in that clip. I do not see Upshaw that highly. It seems like he stays hurt and he isnt that impactful. Totally blind rankings before spring, totally subject to change.
1. Toney
2. Barkate
3. Vaughn
4. Moore
5. Jacobs
6. Wingo
7. Parris
8. Upshaw
9. Spafford
10. Evans
11. Briggs - way too small for TE

Ridiculously deep and talented group of wideouts. Whoever wins WR3 will be an absolute stud, NFL level guy. Great time to be a Canes fan!
Extremely deep room.

I can see someone bouncing in the Spring (yes, I know there is no spring portal anymore) but likely won’t stop some players from bouncing all across the country.

Because he got hurt at the end of the season? He's been on campus for one year? Has there been other injuries?
When the competition is this steep (7 guys who can really go for 3 spots), it kind of doesnt matter. Have to be better than Upshaw was IMO and available in the playoff run unless he is seriously messed up. Maybe Im wrong. I am wrong all the time.

I love what I see but just wanna see him display more strength after the first contact and break a few more tackles

The difference between Vaughn and Horton is twitch. Vaughn is much more intentional and urgent to break the routine catch for added yac. Horton is a possession wr while Vaughn is much kore dangerous after the catch. Jacobs is faster than Vaughn but he isn’t as athletic and long. The biggest reason I favor Vaughn to play in the top 4 is that he is a dawg. He plays with an attitude, we’ll need GABOS culture to keep him in check because he isn’t CJ Bailey maturity wise.

@skyman I agree, I'm being too pessimistic.
