Basic hiring guidelines

Dan. *******. RADAKOVICH.

I know people who worked for and with him when he was at Miami and GT that have nothing but huge praise for him as an administrator and person.
He would be a major get.
Man, is it possible that Clemson could lose their offense to the abyss, lose Venables to OU, AND we steal their AD all in the span of 3-4 months? Pants off, I'm here for it.

It is all binders and pillars if he cannot back it up with past performance..
Agreed.

That's why my preference is someone with legit success at a smaller program. There's plenty of these guys (App State and SMU for example) out there. And while there's no confirmation on everyone that's been interviewed I still have no clue why there's no smoke around legit proven ADs from programs like the two above.

In the case of Eddie, you're basically squinting hard enough until they all look the same.

That isn't happening.
I'm well aware. But it is the answer to your question.

Are we even sure we have a complete list of all the possible candidates?

Jurich - out
Rhoades -?
Coyle - ?
Radakovich - I'm not sold, but better than some
Nunez - Not the worst, better with Zo as head of football.
Hernandez - The worst.

Don't we need a coach who also fits this mold? Don't we need a coach who has the experience and energy to (re)build a program? I feel like there needs to be a mirror of energy and vision between the AD and the HC.

The more time that passes, the more I see Mario as being the guy. What he did at FIU is undersold I think. People see his record and don't consider how much of a dumpster fire FIU was when he got there.

I know from experience how he treats local coaches and how he builds relationships. During my time involved in local football, Shannon, Golden and Richt/Manny were never better than him. Richt was the closest it got.

We need to look at the candidate that is HIRED through this lens. Forget the candidates we hear about. Don't believe a word of any of that. If this is done right (a huge assumption given our history, I know), there will be very little word leaked about the hire before it is official.
Agreed, I’m just going off What we know right now.

Obviously someone who has never been an AD before. That’s who.
I know what you mean, but it’s not necessarily as dumb as it sounds. Fred Glass (IU, recently retired) and Jack Swarbrick (ND) were both lawyers at my old firm when they became ADs. Both very good sports lawyers, but zero AD experience and both have done very well. It’s not a disqualifier IMO if you have someone with the right background and skills with relevant experience. Former players don’t necessarily check those boxes at least for me, including Zo and Gino, but in the abstract it’s possible there could be good candidates that are not ADs.

Also from what little I know I think White seems to check the most boxes. Solid AD, young, seems like someone who could have a good plan for NIL and investments. Good pedigree. I think he would be a good hire.
