Barry Jackson with an update on Alonzo

Is Blake James the only friggin person around that's a good fundraiser? WTF. People bowing to him and acting like he is irreplaceable. People in power admittedly know he is failing miserably at half of his job requirements. This is really cookin my grits. Frenk is so clueless as to how deep this problem runs and as too how much money would be rolling in when UM football is winning. He must think UM football means the soccer team. On another note, Diaz SR must really be working his contacts to protect his son.

By default this team should walk into the ACC Coastal Championship 7 out of 10 times, and thats being generous. 9 out of 10 if I put my UM goggles on. What a shame.

Who would Alonzo report to? It would either be Manny, Blake or Frenk (who has no interest or engagement in the Athletic Department).
There's a firewall between the University admin and the BOT. Everyone at the []__[] reports to some administrator except President/CEO Frenk, who reports to the BOT. One of Blake's main jobs is finessing donors and telling them no without losing their support. Once he's played all his cards and lost support of the most ardent benefactors (Miller, Dimare, Soffer) he's essentially useless. Any communication Blake has with the board is an informal courtesy because he doesn't report to them and they have no direct influence over his job.

If the board and Blake interview someone it all needs to go to Frenk for his blessing to complete the loop. Nothing is done at the university of MIami without Frenk's blessing as President and there's no side-stepping that.

The board and the fan-base appealed to Blake without a satisfactory response and now everyone needs to lean on Julio (absentee) Frenk.

If James was smart he'd make AH Deputy AD for Football Operations and have Manuela report to AH. AH would report to BJames. Let AH run the football operation admin. It would protect James from the potential football issues by having AH responsible for football. If it turns out well its a win-win for everybody. If Manuela fails BJames can let AH sort out the future and he's protected. Everybody saves face if it goes well. If not, AH has the knowledge and contacts to run a new HC search, etc. They should pay AH for such a position and let him serve as the defacto AD for football. Lastly, it is a private school so I would think they could restructure as they wish.

Going to keep it real.

This story is starting to get to the point of unbelievable. Everything is starting to sound like a hyperbole to the point I'm questioning if this Alonzo Highsmith 2 Miami story had real, legitimate legs or if it was just an (good) idea that people pitched that died on a vine when we inquired with the guy. The details of all of this are an embarrassment either way whether they are true, false, or some shade of truth.

Blake out here like f’uck it. If he going down, he going down in flames.

He ain’t worried bout no trustees or donors or nothing. He got a serious power structure backing him. Still, he keep ****** up like he can’t be touched, the chickens will come home to roost quicker than he thinks.

Can you smell that?? It's the grease getting warm....we bout ready to have fried chicken for dinner buddy!

He isn’t a good fundraiser; he is a good fund eraser.

It is a common mistake/misconception.

Precisely why people were out of line to expect this to be a slam dunk a few days ago—as you're literally trying to create a position and establish a hierarchy.

There is a way to work this out and pull it off.

Everything in life is a negotiation. Just need someone with a brain (a tall order, I know) to lay out how this can be a beneficial hire for the program—and one that isn't seen as a negative that steps on toes.

I can understand Diaz not wanting someone looking over his shoulder—but he shouldn't have full autonomy, either. Not as a first-year head coach coming off a 6-7 season. He's not Mark Richt, who did 15 years at Georgia before three at Miami—nor should his opinion / desire carry as much weight as if a proven entity like Richt was still in charge.

I love you.

I am also of the belief that the whole Highsmith thing has been nothing but a smoke screen to distract from the severity of how terrible things are in the hechct center. This program is effed

How does anything Highsmith-related at all distract from the sh1tshow regarding Miami's athletic department and the inner workings at Hecht? If anything it's confirmed things are worse than most thought—and it's brought this "civil war" to the forefront of all discussions; all warts on display, dragged out by way of the local media.

Put into the context of UM under Donna Shalala and axe yourself if it still seems unbelievable when compared to things like:

  • Firing Coker, paying $80K to a consultant to find a qualified head coach then hiring Randy Shannon. An inexperienced guy who was already on campus.

  • Extending Al Golden after see 2.5 seasons of his on-field product.

  • Interviewing ONE candidate with zero head coaching experience, then immediately making a full priced offer to that candidate and then having to pay $3-4 million in buy out money to Temple where he had been employed for a matter of hours.
