Barry Jackson New Article & what Mario must do now

Completely agree with you. If he loves the U as much as has been reported, I just really hope he takes a long hard look in the mirror and makes substantial changes in how he runs things during the season. He is great at a lot of other things but in season just falls flat for some reason. Maybe he will have a Nick Saban moment of clarity this offseason and get with the times on offense.
that's the only hope we have for the short future... He has shown the willingness to fire and hire coordinators but has refused to make changes to his process on gameday... but up to this point, he could blame the season shortcomings on the roster.. even last year's roster wasn't built to his liking and forced him to play an uptempo/high scoring offense, which he isn't comfortable with.. and he probably blamed the season shortcomings on being forced to play that kind of football..

but this year's roster was BUILT specifically for his style of gameday management/coaching.. and there's a very good chance that this year's team will fall short of even last year's deeply flawed roster.. hopefully he sees that the best strategy is a combination of last year's offense and this year's defense... and just because he has a very strong defense doesn't mean he needs to go into a conservative/time possession shell on offense...

Like him or not, when Barry Jackson calls you out and begins to present facts, the national figure heads soon begin to regurgitate his columns. Both Desmond Howard and Stephen A. Smith live in Miami and College Game Day has used Barry’s columns in the past to make sure UM hears the message.
Mario is no where near close to getting fired and every year he seems to address issues that have plagued him the previous season but as the game of college football gets more and more expensive on every level and the amount of money at stake increases, this is not an environment of patience or slow and steady, gradual success.
Coaches with a better track record and more success are getting fired. Coaches who are building a faster, better product with less talent and less resources are getting hired. Guys like Bob Chesney and Tim Polasek are waiting for their shot and are bargains compared to what Mario is making.
A guy like Curt Cignetti, is Mario’s worse nightmare. He’s James Franklin and Brian Kelly’s worse nightmare. It doesn’t take 5-7 years to build a solid foundation and get progressive results. With the right coaches and the right players and the right support you can get it done. Mario just has to do some deep soul searching and admit his flaws. If Miami doesn’t tell him he needs to evolve his philosophy, the Miami fans and our support eventually do.

Miami can’t afford to fire Mario. The only way out of this nightmare is for Mario to do the honorable thing and resign without any compensation.

or he can self reflect and take the criticism and make the changes he needs to. It's not like this can't be fixed without a complete overhaul. He's elevated recruiting, facilities, and strength and conditioning, etc. and apparently still has the NIL backing (for now).

I honestly don't mind the pressure on him right now. Let's see how he deals with it.

Mario just needs to loosen up, have some fun, and let it rip. There’s nothing to lose.

I don’t think Dawson is a very creative play caller. He’s only shown that in very limited instances. But as many people have observed here, just going with some tempo, using fewer condensed sets, using more rpo and play action, and adding a couple wrinkles into the run game would make a huge difference.

Just the facts and they are damning for Mario vis a vis what he is paid to produce. Agree with all of it.
ok, read from Barry but to me no new reveals in terms of what's wrong. Mario needs to redefine his role as that of a CEO. He is great at NIL, portal recruiting
but not so good on the offensive side of football, in game decisions motivation
etc. hire a guy like Phil Longo give him the keys and say GO.hiring an OC and tell Mario's buddy Mirabel you coach the OLine & should not be involved in Run game. Mario makes changes in D when necessary but Heatherman runs his own shop. this is Mario's mess and he needs to employ some self reflection to create the success he envisions for the program

Gotta execute better guys. All there is to it. Better execution. Not the fact that we create tight games where 1 mistake can be magnified. Just execution. Rinse repeat, see you next year, same time, same spot, same results

Mario needs to be the GM/CEO, he can recruit, knows NIL and portal.
hire good people and get out of the way

You guys need to realize he’s here for a minimum additional 3 seasons and likely beyond that. He's not going anywhere. Legit a 0% chance.
Its not a 0% chance.

Say he goes 8-5 this year.
6-7 next year ...

He won't stick around. The heat will be scorching. Recruiting will evaporate. NIL will diminish.

At a certain point, the reputational damage will be too much for him.

Mario is paid 17th nationally in regards to HC's.

Barry Jackon well if you exclude this coach and that coach Mario ranks further down.

Yeah Bar if you exclude all the good sportswriters you may get to average level.

Barry cant stand Mario and Mario cant stand Barty. Who gives a flip?
He's a pot-stirrer. Not at all surprised he has some kind of negative article out already. He can't wait to have something to write about.

I’m not opposed to him taking on a role like this but is he even open to it? Also, how many more seasons do we have to bear before this is even a possibility?
Also I have no idea how much autonomy he currently gives his coordinators, who knows how much autonomy he would even give the whole program if he was CEO. This could be a worse scenario if he is a control freak.

Not sure we have the alpha at the top to enforce this. Admittedly I don't know much about Echevarria. I know the AD is an empty suit.

The only way to pull this off is threaten withholding the funds. Might get ugly. Might go public. I'd call Mario's bluff if it did. Basically, we're not paying for mediocrity. Let him be a dead man walking if need be..

Regardless, this is the only scenario for Mario to be successful. He's too inept to be hands on..

You don't think the pot needs to be stirred? The seat would be warming at any program with our history and budget. In some cases, he might actually be fired.

this is it in a nutshell. Just lighten up. The team has been tight since they got shell shocked by Louisville. They have to play as if they have nothing to lose (which is probably not far from the truth right now).

hes hired and fired his mistakes, but he never changed his philosophy. on top of that, we are very undisciplined esp along the OL that has killed us all year long. that was the one spot i thought wed be okay in.

as you said, he built this roster to play his style. he likes the style. he honestly doesnt see the issue with the style, but execution. im convinced he hated last years offense to his core bc it goes against what he wants the identity to be.

this team has played tight all season long. nothing changed. the only diff is were scouted and arent getting the stuff they were getting in the first four weeks.

they play not to lose all year long and got inot a tight game with UF despite dominating, nearly lost to ND despite dominating, nearly blew it against FSU despite dominating, losing to lville, losing to smu, etc.

it has nothing to do with being tight. its got everything to do with the scheme and coaching.

Mario seems like the kind of guy that had fun exactly once, and hated every second of it.
