Maybe when the lack of winning causes a lack of revenue. Maybe not winning enough causes Miami to no longer be relevant to Big Ten or SEC expansion. Maybe when the program is stuck on the outside looking in and there’s only one chance of fixing it. Maybe there’s no guarantee a change will fix the problem, but we can nearly guarantee not making a change will not fix the problem.

Finishing the season on a whimper will not result in momentum into next season. Quite the opposite. I can see staff changes coming, although that seems to happen to every program. I can also foresee a number of outbound transfers. Sure they’ll be replaced by inbound transfers, but they better hit. Sure we had a high ranked portal class last year but what happens with the team sinks to an 8-4 or even a 7-5 finish and loss in a meaningless December bowl game? A month ago the team was a presumed CFP participant. Today the team is a CFP hopeful reliant upon not only winning out, but needing a number of other teams lose maybe multiple games.

Maybe these wealthy patrons cutting the checks will want something in return more than just another average ACC program.

This may take a couple more disappointing seasons after this one.
This a very good post and I think that if they think it will cost them with their chances at getting into a conference then I could see it but do they really want to leave the ACC? I know Clemson and FSU do

There is a major problem if the school powers do not want to leave the ACC. A bigger problem than Mario Cristobal.

With conference expansions the SEC and the Big Ten are more or less a P2, with both the Big 12 and ACC a second tier. The SEC and Big Ten are manipulating the college football playoffs to guarantee four participants each. The Big 12 and ACC will be lucky to have two each.

Look at how much more money the SEC and Big Ten collect television rights compared to the ACC.

Look at how many five star players signed with the SEC and the Big Ten. With eight teams guaranteed to make the CFP players will flock to the power schools in those conferences. Maybe Alabama and Georgia and LSU won’t get all the southeastern talent but those they don’t sign will end up at Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Florida, Missouri, etc. Same for Big Ten country players that don’t sign with Ohio State, Michigan or Penn State or maybe Indiana now. Even Oregon and USC can sign players from the Big Ten country.

If the school administration settles for remaining in the ACC, we might as well resign, and as @Peter Ariz says, adjust our expectations. The program will remain on the outside looking in.

I think the Big Ten may be a better fit than the SEC and I’m hoping within a few years the invitation is given. A lot of people have moved from Big Ten country to the south so adding Miami would only increase conference television footprint.

This conference has not been good to us. I don’t know how we would do elsewhere but at least the refereeing should be better
The sport is barreling towards being a two conference sport, we need to get the **** out of the ACC. The money. The perception. The recruiting. All of it.

Being in the ACC is the equivalent of running into the A gap every play. You’re playing the game with one arm tied behind your back and the other one is broken.

I don’t know when we will be able to. I recall the buyout being 9 figures and someone in the B1G needs to invite us. Forget about the SEC, they aren’t bringing us in there. The B1G should offer us whether Wisconsin likes it or not but I don’t know that they will.

Also tbh our teams get up for logo games I am not so sure the harder schedule wouldn't be balanced a little bit by Miami actually being excited for more than just FSU during conference play.

I stated in Spring, Mario better win because the way he's treating the media, as if he was going to teach them how to cover his team by access, would come back and bite him if he fails. The vultures are are swarming. He better win 10 games or he's in trouble. He's in trouble.
