I get what people are saying about an OC not fixing anything and Richt is the problem and that is true. But Richt being the OC and his son being the QB coach is the deeper problem. If he actually uses an OC hire to get better and gives the dude authority over the offense... it’ll solve a lot of our problems. Doesn’t hide the amateur hour defensive staff or the lack of depth at a few positions... but a legit OC would help the ST, help the defense or at least put both of them in better situations.

Sure Richt is still Richt but a good offense would change a lot. It’s gonna take more than just hiring an OC.. Jon is gonna need to be fired or demoted to an analyst and Searels needs to go.

Just saying.. it could work out like Brian Kelly if we do it right

Step 1. Hire and OC and get a QB coach with real experience. See how I it plays out. If it doesn’t work then he’s done. Everyone wanted a new OC and he may do it. If he does then STFU.

I disagree. At this point, let him keep this staff and go down with the ship. We have deeper issues than schemes and play calling.

Completely agree

Mark Richt ain't winning no championship here. No ACC. No National Championship.

He is a bum.

I don't want to make the same mistake we made before.

Miami fans in 2005 - "Anybody is better than Larry Coker. Literally anybody else can win a 'ship here. Miami made Howard, Jimmy, Dennis, and Butch, not the other way around." UM eats a huge buyout and hires Randy Shannon on the cheap.

Miami Fans in 2011 - "Anybody is better than Randy Shannon. We just need a coach with head-coaching experience." UM hires Al Golden.

Miami Fans in 2015 - "Anybody is better than Al Golden. We just need a coach who has won at a major D1 school." UM hires Mark Richt

Miami Fans in 2018 - "Anybody is better than Mark Richt. We just need an innovator who isn't stubborn." ...........

If we fire Richt tomorrow, then we're right back to where we were in 2005.... eating a huge buyout, and probably looking to hire Manny Diaz, the modern Randy Shannon.

If we're serious about hiring a new coach, it needs to be somebody who ticks multiple boxes, not just someone who seems to fit whatever the current mood is. Be proactive, not reactionary. Don't solve yesterday's problems, solve tomorrow's problems.

Best post here in months. But your solution will never be applied. There is a reason ESPN runs that "Overreaction Monday" segment every week. They are making fun of themselves, along with the tendency you described. No reason to hold onto today's opinion when you can change it tonight. And then tomorrow's opinion will be even better.

Tomorrow's problem will be the lack of an on-campus stadium. Tomorrow's problem will be soft prancing local high school football and the mindset it establishes.

Big pictures survive dents

He isn’t going to get fired after year 3. He clearly needs to make changes on offense, and it appears that he understands that. I hope whatever he does works.

'Everything' can't be on the table, because when all is said and done, Richt will still be there infecting everything underneath. Any change that doesn't involve him (and Flake) being gone is no change.

And a key thing some are overlooking is the fact that the offense has been so bad, it has drawn attention away from all the other problems.

Will getting an OC solve Richt's embarrassingly poor recruiting? or the fact that he hired the unproven underlings of an outgoing DC that got worked by any decent offense he faced? or his suspect strength coach that produces bigger, slower players? or the fact he would chose to use only 8 of the allotted 15 bowl practices?

This program is rotting at the root -- a problem that leaf-hacking can't fix.

Brian Kelly, James Franklin and a few others have re-tooled their offenses.
But as you noted, it won't work when nepotism is an issue.
In Franklin's case, he had to fire a coach he had known since their Maryland days, someone
he was really tight with.
But Richt has to be very flexible and mostly hands-off.
Heck, even successful offensive minds like Mike Belloti at Oregon, Tedford at Cal//Fresno, Leach at Wazzu
have brought in assistants who did things differently so they can keep up with the times.
Not sure if Richt has that in him.
