Barkate needs more targets

I'm not typically a big fan of screens, but that one was ran to perfection. I was at a BJ's restaurant in Aurora, CO with a friend watching the game and when he scored on that play I got super hype.
Genuinely asking… why aren’t you a fan?

When executed correctly you get that play but also when it’s a tool in your toolbox and you’re a team that likes to run… inside like us, it keeps the defense honest.

You want to crowd the box against us… or your DBs keep gambling because they expect the run we’ll make you think twice about that.

You never pass up an open WR. If it’s mesh and you’re reading it post - mesh - swing you don’t skip the post bc the mesh may be “more open” that’s why Barkate caught that TD post on mesh.

On Y Cross it’s pre snap peek the vert and then Cross to Curl to swing. Toney is unstoppable on Y Cross so rarely will the Q work to #2
You said it better than me. As open as Toney has been, why wouldn't Mensah continue to go to him?

And he’s typically the first post snap read because he’s the crosser. On shallow it’s the cross to hunt-dig to swing. The post or vert is often pre snap / peek

When he scored I yelled this ain’t 2016 no more this is our time & the Clemson fans got so quiet 😭

The false pull is what makes that such a killer screen when executed correctly.

It helped win a couple games last year late when Dawson needed a big play.

It’s almost a tell, though. If he’s into the boundary on a big play or moment, I look for that play first if I’m playing Safety against Dawson.

Also, the RB motion to the flat he went to the well a few times in ultra critical situations to Marty Brown.

Looks like his new one is going to be Lofton in motion and in some bunch sets.

i feel like teams can become overly reliant on screens vs their actual success rate.

You’re not wrong but play calling goes beyond the big play. We don’t run toss sweeps, this is our kind of version of that. Even if it goes for 3-4 yards it serves it’s purpose for us.

Going for 61 yards on the 2nd play gave them something to worry about the rest of game. But more importantly it gives ND something else to worry about… it’s on tape, someone other than Mali on the outside went for a big play.

you make a good point. Also, I have an irrational fear that teams will do to us what Keionte Scott did to Ohio St in the playoffs.

TrumpyCane thinks the difference is our WRs block so well, Scott INT was helped out by J Smith being lazy on the block, scott also just read it so well, was such a quick get off

But Keiote pointed out their tell with the TE coming in motion and being in off line… that meant Jeremiah wasn’t going out for a pass and that 100% of the time on film when the TE did that… screen.

Just like Saturday… Mo and Chase immediately started pointing to the RB when Reynolds walks towards the sideline in 4th and short. Elite… detailed film study.
