Barkate needs more targets

Is he getting open?

Surprised he wasn’t targeted more after Toney and down considering his connection with Mensah. Bizarre.
 
He’s not that guy and I think you all were expecting something that doesn’t exist in his game. He needs to be a complementary WR running routes in designed matchups and combination patterns out of bunch, trips, etc. Watch all of his plays from last season at Duke. Many of them were from offensive design and leverage. A couple times tonight he was alone one one side of the formation and didn’t get clean releases.

So, before you all freak out, I agree he is solid, but he’s not a ‘consistently beat an outside CB’ type of WR. We need that to come from Moore or Jacobs or give Wingo a chance.

If Mali is limited, your offense cannot go into a shell. But, there’s a lot more to talk about our personnel grouping choices anyway.

They were playing 9 yards off him all night but we kept throwing screens. It’s a consistent thing I saw with Dawsons offense since day 1 and pointed out. The WR on the wide side of the field might as well not be on the field. No targets. such a **** waste!

It's amazing how Dawson can go from genius to moron in 5 seconds

He never uses the wide side of the field. Threw 1 slant out there in 4 years! No fades, no posts, no crosses. Or deep comebacks or outs! Those are pitch and catch vs 1 on one when the DB is playing 10 yards off! Then you can set them up with double moves! There’s no reason why we are throwing Mali the ball 12-15 times while having 1v1 out there! PERIOD!

Alvin Harper was NOT Micheal Irvin. But Alvin Harper was a great #2 receiver.

Barkarte is NOT Toney. But he can be a great #2 receiver.
