Bama fires Head Coach

Dumb ***. I don’t feel sorry for any of these guys, Pete Rose included. You have one job DON‘T BET ON THE GAMES !!!!
I’m 100% ok with Pete betting on his own team. Different times back then. Couldn’t allow it today, bc the market it so big now, teams would throw games. Let the guy in the hall.

You have to be a degenerate gambler in order to not follow that very simple rule.

You can bet on every other sport except the one you’re playing/coaching, it’s real easy.

If you get caught it’s because you have a problem.

The thing is with gambling you get in holes and it’s much easier to lose on purpose than it is to win. That’s just how it works.

It goes on a lot more than you think especially in college sports. A manager / coach / player betting on or against his team is the one no no and that’s been the cardinal sin forever . It’s the one thing you can’t have in your sport. It destroys all credibility.

F Rose or any other person who’s stupid and greedy enough to do that.

As I said in another post “ it’s much easier to lose on purpose than it is to win”. So if you’re such a reckless degenerate you’re breaking the one cardinal sin you definitely have it in you to lose on purpose. One tweak with the bull pen or benching a starter can change everything.

I played in a basketball league with Teddy Dupay and knew a lot of his friends back in the day. I know just how common this was , especially in CBB. It’s very easy for one guy to affect the spread. It’s a no go. You can’t do it.

College baseball is such a small market in the landscape of sports betting, I am surprised this has escalated to this level. Most betting establishments limit the size of bets on sports w limited coverage/exposure, for that reason.

Totally stupid on their part, especially a head coach of a D1 team, but still surprising this story continues to evolve.

(That’s what makes it a problem)

See you used to be able to spread a bunch of bets around on above board and below board books ands get away with it. But this is the age of the internet and AI. All the info is processed instantly by 3rd party integrity companies the casino's pay, and the algorithms detect anything abnormal, from the betting history of the player, timing, to the usual handle on comp games, etc. It flags anything weird real quick. In summary, it's 100x more idiotic to break the rules these days, ESPECIALLY with how coaching salaries have escalated. The Bama coach just lost a $500k/year job and will be blackballed from baseball for life I'd guess. Must have graduated from Bama, too.

The Iowa story looks massive

  • The university has received information about 111 individuals.
    • This includes 26 current student-athletes from baseball, football, men’s basketball, men’s track and field, and men's wrestling, as well as one full-time employee of the UI Department of Athletics.
    • The vast majority of the individuals are student-staff, former student-athletes, or those with no connection to UI Athletics.
    • The list does not include any current or former coaches.

I guess so.

Something like this will either slow or repeal some of the state laws recently enacted, or prove that enforcement can work if you let the private sector run it as @CE pointed out.

On the last point, I’ll be interested to see how long it’s been going on, and how they found out about it.

Bama coach should've realized you have to get your team highly ranked before you can commit crimes at the university
