Nick Saban may earn in the area of $7 million per year, but that doesn't stop the Alabama faithful from helping out their championship-winning coach whenever and however they can.

The Crimson Tide Foundation paid off Nick Saban's $3.1 million home in January 2013.
According to a report from Al.com, the Crimson Tide Foundation paid off Saban's $3.1 million home in January 2013 even though the organization was under no obligation to do so.

The Sabans, who bought the 8,759 square-foot home in 2007, continue living there with the foundation picking up the tab for property taxes each year.

"It's not all that unusual in the world for universities to provide the housing," Scott Phelps, assistant secretary of the foundation, told Al.com, noting how the University of Alabama also owned the home of Paul "Bear" Bryant and his family. "We want to keep him happy. We think he is the best coach in America."

According to the Crimson Tide Foundation website, it is a nonprofit group whose mission is to work with the UA athletic department "by raising private funds and providing necessary resources to achieve success." Those funds are distributed for everything from scholarships to coaching salaries to athletic-related construction projects.

A spokesperson for the NCAA told Al.com that a coach's compensation is allowed to come from a university foundation.

Coach gets most, players get little.

With all the money these programs are generating, the players should be entitled to more.

Surprised the NCAA hasn't put a stop to this as an "entitlement that only the rich can afford" thereby creating more disparity than already exists. I wonder about the history of this & what other institutions have the legal/$$ means to do this. It's rather greedy in light of the salary package Saban already receives. Does the house revert to the Bama foundation when they leave town in the middle of the night (sorry, couldn't resist :)

not surprised one bit. Saban can enter into any home in Tuscaloosa, eat the mans dinner, drink his beer, and **** his wife...the guy would brag about it to friends. They really are on another level. In Coral Gables...the benefits are somewhat different, mediocre expectations and AG is allowed to steal 2 million dollars per year...his friend stealing some cash too.

I see all the Golden Gaggers are in full force...dont worry he will let you down very soon

You think those same boosters don't have "limit" on what they will spend on the team?!?!?! The SEC has no salary cap

Yea they paid for the house, but they also covering their *** if he leaves. .they will own it just like they own Bear Bryant's house... they aren't dumb just to give stuff away like that....lol

Man, the house you must get for 3 million in Alabama has be insane.

To put it into perspective the red zone of a football field is about 9000 square feet. So yeah it a fairly large house, and I would figure there is more than an acre or two involved in that parcel of land as well... not a bad deal.....

If Butch Davis suddenly said he would come to Miami if the school would buy him a 3 million dollar home, I'm sure many of us would trip over ourselves in trying to set up a Butch Home Fund.
