I had basketball coaches like Mario in high school. Definitely limited me and our team as players since we were not allowed to play to our strengths (ball handling, playmaking, and shooting). Good coaches understand what they have and help it flourish in the way that it can, not force their way on their players. That's why Coach L is a borderline legend and Mario is a laughing stock.

Amazing how people are trying to act like they rock with Coach L, when just 2.5 years ago, most of our basketball illiterate fanbase wanted him frog marched out of town. There's nothing wrong with being disappointed with how Mario has managed this roster, and how this season has gone, but let's keep it real: This fanbase loves to denigrate coaches, then magically pretend that what was said wasn't said if things get better.

Pretty sure most anti-L folks ate crow here...

If Mario adapts, it will mean everyone was actually correct and that he actually grew as a coach...not sure people will be upset about that..

These are the dumbest posts on this site. Are you supposed to accept garbage being put on the field/court for multiple years in a row?

L went a couple years in a row where he left scholarships open and didn’t have enough guys to practice 5 on 5. That’s not acceptable. At any school. Ever. But it was supposed to be fine bc he went to a Sweet 16 a couple years before that. Everybody knew he was the best coach Miami has probably ever had. But that doesn’t mean he can not do his job and is above criticism.

Mario is the reason this team has lost multiple games this year. Are we supposed to accept that bc he had a couple good seasons somewhere else? Wtf does that have to do with how bad he’s been since he took this job?

GTFOH with people just like to **** on coaches. No. People criticize when criticism is warranted.

the fan base was calling for Larranaga's head after:

2018-2019 14-18 t-11th in ACC
2019-2020 15-16 t-10th in ACC
2020-2021 10-17 13th in ACC

If it was up to the fan base, Coach L would have been gone several years ago. Fake people.

You're missing his point, dude. The OP is claiming how much he loves Coach L, and the guy you're responding to is simply pointing out that the fan base didn't think to much of Larranaga just several years ago. I think Mario has certainly ****ed **** up but I also believe he should be given time to build his program. Those two things can be true at the same time. And FYI, every fan base ***** on their ****** coaches.

100%... it took talent for Coach L to turn sh*tshow into delight. We know he can do that. It took NIL and some nice recruiting and transfer portal... and maybe the taint of scandal more in the distant past...and Coach L gets credit for that as well as deserved lack thereof during those 2-3 very lean years here.

It was poor roster management and the bad luck of scandal afterglow that led to those bad years, and IF it continued he surely deserved to begone, despite some decades-ago sweet 16. He then handled NIL and transfer portal like the champ he is (and was?) Otherwise...This theme does not play for thoughtful informed fans.

Coach L grew as a coach and adapted. If he had followed that up with another bad year, he would have been fired, and rightfully so. Thank god he adapted to a more modern, faster approach predicated on swarming the ball, constant movement, and in turn, he recruited better talent because it was fun to play in his system. Winning = easier to recruit, more to sell.

What a novel concept.

That's not true, and you know it. Coach L had three straight dog **** years never finishing higher than 10th in the ACC. The fan base wanted him gone. And like I've always said about Mario. I'll give him time, but time is running shorter by the game.

Dude, Coach L took over the program in 2011. He had immediate success. Those bad years were later and ya'll certainly wanted him gone. Stop lying.
