It's ok someone has to fill his job. And then someone else has to fill that job.

There is still hope.

what is with all these big programs hiring average to below average coaches lately?

I asked this in another thread and no one ever answered...

When was the last time an ELITE college coach left a top tier job to go to another college job in one offseason?

College football has become such a big business that even schools like Ole Miss, Baylor, TCU, Okie State, Michigan State, Kentucky etc. that have previously been considered "mid-level" jobs will pony up to keep dudes like Freeze, Briles, Patterson, Dantonio, Gundy, Stoops.

The closest we have seen lately is Charlie Strong going from Louisville to Texas, and really those programs are not in the same orbit.

That's why I think Golden actually might be a better commodity than he should be...look at the other options. No one that is actually gettable is that much better.

For instance: Pitt probably doesn't LOVE Golden but he has been a head coach for like 10 years. They know what they are getting with him...stability, the system, a clean program, etc. Might not be national championships, but they could convince themselves he can get them 8 or 9 wins a year in the ACC. Narduzzi or Hermann or whoever might be the next great thing, but we have all seen hot shot coordinators fail cosmically, so maybe Golden starts sounding a lot better.
