What kind of recruiter would he be if he wasn't in a state that has 300 D1 athletes a year?
that's really my question not a jab.

That's certainly a question, but any coach has questions around them. What we do know is that guy would go into FL and upgrade the athletes on this team in a hurry. Let Strickland take care of Wisconsin/Minnesota. He'll have to hire guys he might not be comfortable with to recruit Ohio, IN, IL, etc, but Golden also gets into NJ and CA somewhat too. He's a big name in recruiting. I would imagine it takes care of itself.
IMO - If UW wants a guy to upgrade the talent but aren't going to change academic standards or put more money into recruiting, they need a guy like this. Recruits flock to him. Granted recruiting at Miami is a **** of a lot easier to recruit than UW, but look at the kids he's pulling. They trust him. He can sell a ketchup popsicle to a woman in white gloves (Yes, I just went there).

He recruits Jersey harder than South Florida so going out of state is something he clearly he has no problem with

This was his introductory comments this morning on Golden and the coaching search...

***We still believe Miami head coach Al Golden is going to be sought after. As we reported in the last coaching search, Wisconsin went after Golden, who opted to stay put with the Hurricanes. Two years later, Golden still makes a lot of sense. Not only does Golden have some connections to the Big Ten, coaching at Penn State in 2000, but his style meshes with Alvarez. Golden runs a pro-style system that feeds the running backs, very similar to what Wisconsin has been about.
A source in the coaching circle tells Badger247 "Alvarez has always liked Golden." We wouldn't be surprised to see Wisconsin make another run at him, considering Miam's 6-6 season in 2014. Golden is also a proven recruiter and would certainly land more big time players that the Badgers have been accustomed to, especially in South Florida.

He actually is a really good fit for the job. No hyperbole ...

His preferred style of football ... What they did when he was with PSU, UVA, and Temple ... Is more consistent with what Alvarez expects from his football teams. Run the ball in pro-style, control the clock, play sound defense, limit mistakes, and let the other guys make mistakes.

His recruiting prowess is highly thought of by most experts/media in the field. He'll do well signing their local talent, keep his Northeast pipeline open, and he'll maintain inroads with select Florida talent. If he fills his roster with local kids on the OL & DL, supplements the lines, LBs, and Qbs with other kids from the surrounding Midwest and Northeast, and gets the right speed kids from Florida, with an occasional West Coast kid thrown in ... He can build a nice roster in Madison. And those kids probably won't balk at the system he plays, and might be better built for it.

His experience at PSU, UVA, and Miami make him uniquely positioned to deal with the academics Wisconsin is looking to maintain. Their admission process is in his lane. He's also done really well with APRs. And he'll likely need less "waivers" to get kids in up there, because the guys who are interested are more likely to have grades.

And, fairly important ... Al (and the staff he takes) might be OK making what Wisconsin wants to pay. I imagine the cost of living in Madison is below the cost of living for SoFl. That matters. The financial piece might be what tips things in favor of Golden.

As I understand the situation when Chryst left, and took a bunch of the Wisconsin staff ... They all got raises. Unless Wisconsin in changing their practice on staff pay, why would they go back?

That is actually mostly true. Al will help them and his defense will be more acceptable and work better there. He is a good fit for them.

There window is closing fast. Golden's career is hotter than the surface of the darkside of the moon. If they don't act fast, teams like Macalester College will snap him up for their prestigious opening as special teams and recruiting coordinator. Or maybe he takes the The University Of Texas (Of The Permian Basin) head coaching gig. Bottom line, with the options Golden has, the Badgers better move fast.

I hope this is a big selling point for Wisconsin.

NJ players signed or committed under Golden: 7 signed, 2 committed. Not many reaches. 3 DL, 1OL, QB, LB, 2TE, 1 DB

Signed: Pierre, Knighton, AQM, Olsen, Hester, Jenkins, Njoku
Committed: Gordinier, Washington

Golden sucks at coaching, but he isn't too bad at recruiting out of state considering our recruiting budget isn't up with the others. Please Wisconsin, buy him out of here.

In all honesty golden makes a whole lot more sense at Wisconsin then he does at Miami. Golden is a hard worker on the recruiting trail and a school like Wisconsin needs that more than we do.

Lol Wisky fans must think they will pull anyone they want from south fla if they hire him

Look, Feldman said it and he was right: Golden is a great fit at Syracuse, Rutgers, BC, etc. Wisconsin could certainly be lumped in there.

The thing about Wisconsin is that they have hit on 3 coaches in a row. That is really hard to do. They win almost despite their limitations...Golden would undoubtedly get the talent level up.

They'd get their heads caved in occasionally by Michigan State, Ohio State, etc...and as we have seen, probably lose a couple every year to crafty coaches like Fitzgerald and Kill. But Golden's system would also work better with a bunch of slow midwest kids that have been coached to play a system their whole life, as opposed to South Florida kids whom he has to strip of all tenacity before re-training for his system.

lmao I've loved this board over the past few days

I also love how delusional wisconsin fans are about this guy

if al golden can't win here, like the last 2 coaches before that sucked absolute @ss.. nothings gonna change when he goes somewhere else

Oops I mean... NOOOOO NOT OUR COACH NOT AL!!!
