Background Rumblings - Butch Davis

Mm
For the first time, someone close to the program mentioned Butch Davis in a more definitive way. I had been told by people close to the program - boosters and the like - various things over the past year and a half. Today, I heard there have been actual talks of this being a real option for Miami. I was surprised it was said in the manner it was expressed because I had also heard some negative stuff in the past.

Have at it...

: As most of you know, I'm here to talk football. D$'s the guy with the great connections. I don't consider myself anything close to an insider and basically just know a handful of people close to the program. I'm not on here trying to get Butch hired. I don't have enough information right now to really give a meaningful opinion on the coaching search alternatives.

No offense Lu but I'll believe it when it is actually officially reported or when he is actually hired. Till then I don't buy it. Rumors were plenty last year and amounted to squat

No problem. Not sure what rumors were around last year and this is a simple bit of info that I thought was worth sharing.

One CIS poster late in December posted that the Decision had been made to let Al go. He reported that he had heard it from very reputable sources. It set off a 100 page thread. Eventually the Administration had to quash the rumor, as I recall.

It would be interested to hear what your sources are saying in light of Saturday night's result.

Never personally heard that rumor and, as I noted earlier in the thread, I actually got the impression Butch wouldn't even be considered a real option here. Hence, why I thought this info was worth something.

I haven't talked to any of the same guys this week. I probably will by game time this Saturday.

Zero chance Butch returns. Zero. Even if they offered, the contractual caveats involved would be so onerous that he would not accept the job. Everyone who remembers Butch at the Hecth is dead or retired, but the school will not permit any infractions, and he needs a loose leash to win.

Best bet is Alex and a few other alumns putting up the money for a proven winner.

Hearing Chud is a front runner as well. Schiano just put his bid in as a coach interested as well. Tom Herman is another name surfacing

Those names only show up here among dumbasses.

Not in real coaching circles. Did you hear anything about Chud, or Schiano, or Herman being considered by Maryland? You think USC may want Chud or Schiano?

No. Because they're not staffed with retards.

Virginia Tech is awful, and so is Georgia Tech. Even assuming a loss to Clemson, We might fall *** backwards into winning the coastal which would sadly delay all this new coach talk another year

Don't see us beating Pitt or Duke. We will probably split UVA and UNC.

7-5 at best.
Optimistic at best, unrealistic more likely. We might beat Virginia... finally. UNC's defense under Chizik will continue to improve. We've already proven we can't stop the run, so don't write off GT either.

You seem very confident in your assumptions and the various conclusions you pose without regard to Lu's informed posts. Sauces?

Considering you're one of the best posters when it comes to the X's and O's on this board, any inside information you share with us is appreciated.

Yeah I mean I wasn't predicting it I was just saying how quickly this coaching change would be put on hold by a decent win record.

Also agreed it's unrealistic but for all the teams golden can't beat,Georgia Tech be has reasonable success

LOL. Yeah, Kiffin and Sark were much better choices.

Kiffin? Kiffen destroys whatever program he's head coach of. Sark the drunk?

You on something?

This seems like total BS thread
The only rumblings anyone from Miami will hear is from the Mexican food they had at lunch

I was poking fun at your post, chief. Point being, Haden doesn't have a great track record for picking coaches at USC (though he technically didn't hire Kiffin, he did give him an extra season after everyone was calling for his head, and then had to fire him mid-season). So there's no reason to act all chicken little.

FTR, I'm seeing Chud, Schiano, and Herman on the early speculation for Maryland. Along with Al Golden, heh.

And it is much appreciated I'm not saying it isn't valid I'm just saying last year there were so many rumors at the end of the year that all ended up being false. Just not gonna get my hopes up till things are more official. None the less your info Is always greatly appreciated.

Who do you blame if Butch comes back and fails?

You blame Butch.

We're putting him on this pedestal and touting him so if he disappoints that's on him. All this hype and support we're giving him creates the highest expectations so he needs to be held to them.

I have no reason to think he'll fall short of those expectations.
