Background Rumblings - Butch Davis

Butch hired we will be in the ACC Championship game for sure next year

At Miami, Butch is in his happy hunting ground for recruiting. MD is not South Florida. AT THE U, Butch has to only awaken ghost of greatness past to get to playoffs -- Miami will get in with the slightest opportunity because of ratings. Who the heck cares if Maryland is in our not? Imagine Cane, ND, OSU, UF playoffs? Super Bowl type ratings with everyone pulling for Canes to make the final against any frigging one of them. We remain TV magic.

MD would break the bank for Butch and he would have unlimited power. There is more than enough talent in that region to build a winner. Miami has limitations that probably conflict with where Butch is at in his career.

At this point you are just pulling fecal matter out of your rectal cavity and hoping that it sounds logical.

Please just STFU!

Are you new to the world of college coaching and money? Coaches follow the money. No different than free agents in their respective professions.

You sound like the typical Miami fan who knows next to nothing about these type of dynamics and thinks this school should be every coaches destination job. Hate to tell you Corky, but it's not. Money and power talk, not this mom and pop show in Coral Gables.

Butch is not coaching and has had no offers on the table other than an adviser for the Bucs under Schiano. The North Carolina trouble is still keeping schools away, including Miami. Has enough time passed to overcome the stigma? I hope so. If we lose tomorrow the BOT needs to grow a pair and make the decision FOR Blake. While the remainder of the year will be a ****show with an assistant head coaching, it will be worth it IF we can get a commitment from Butch ASAP. Otherwise, it makes no sense to fire Coach Golden until the end of the year.

Schiano wanted Butch as DC but it would've negated his North Carolina contract, thus making him a "consultant."

BUTCH DAVIS *****ES!!

Maryland should have done a lot more under Edsall. How was their recruiting under him? Seems to me that area is a gold mine for players.

I happen to have talked to someone that is actually related to Butch Davis and I can assure you that MONEY is not even one of the top 3 things that is motivating Butch Davis right now.

Please STFU you are making assumptions and we all know how that ends up for guys like you with Al Gorlden "smartest man in the room" syndrome.

Butch would be smart to go to MD. They are at the point where they want to be relevant in football and have a sht ton of money. It sits in an area of the country where there are a ton of good football players.

That admin is ready to go full steam ahead on developing a top notch football program. They just need an architect like Davis who would embrace and recognize the power he would receive. Miami would try and keep their collective thumbs on him.

Uhh, you serious Clarke?

No one pulls for Miami except Miami fans. We get great ratings when we're good because we are the team everyone loves to hate.

At this point and with the help of the sycophants at ESPN, that's pretty much <insert SEC team here>.

We're the iconoclastic antiheroes if Butch returns.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid Butch might just go to Maryland because he would get a better contract there. Knowing the idiots that run this school, anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Remember all the hysteria about Gruden? Look at WHO we ended up with and the mess we're in now because of that crummy hire. Just won't let myself get too excited. I've seen too much of the chitshow that is this school to trust these clowns to make a decent hire. I can hope we get it right for once, but what are the odds with this bunch of azzholes? They are champions at effing things up royally.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as I recall, we did everything in our power to get Gruden, putting all of our eggs in that basket; but it was Gruden who turned down the job simply b/c the guy doesn't want to coach anymore...thus we were left up a creek w/o a paddle and went to option C. That's how I recall that fiasco. Even Jim Rome reported that it was all a done deal that Gruden was going to be the Canes' new coach...then dude just backed off.

By this time tomorrow, there will be many passed out Canes fans, due to the necessary heavy drinking. You know you're going to do it. Might as well start the mind numbing now.

I live in Cincinnati Ohio and went to school at OSU and there are more ppl up here with love for the Canes than you would think . 3 other fans at my job alone and many of my friends who are fans of other teams have a lot of respect for us

Butch coming back would be worth thd coker, shannon and golden years. And he would have some talent to work with.

Klamalama has been doing some yeoman's work on this board over the past month or so. Dude needs some appreciation.

Quality music across a broad spectrum while keeping the countdown clock.

Hearing Chud is a front runner as well. Schiano just put his bid in as a coach interested as well. Tom Herman is another name surfacing

Virginia Tech is awful, and so is Georgia Tech. Even assuming a loss to Clemson, We might fall *** backwards into winning the coastal which would sadly delay all this new coach talk another year

Don't see us beating Pitt or Duke. We will probably split UVA and UNC.

7-5 at best.

For the first time, someone close to the program mentioned Butch Davis in a more definitive way. I had been told by people close to the program - boosters and the like - various things over the past year and a half. Today, I heard there have been actual talks of this being a real option for Miami. I was surprised it was said in the manner it was expressed because I had also heard some negative stuff in the past.

Have at it...

: As most of you know, I'm here to talk football. D$'s the guy with the great connections. I don't consider myself anything close to an insider and basically just know a handful of people close to the program. I'm not on here trying to get Butch hired. I don't have enough information right now to really give a meaningful opinion on the coaching search alternatives.

No offense Lu but I'll believe it when it is actually officially reported or when he is actually hired. Till then I don't buy it. Rumors were plenty last year and amounted to squat

No problem. Not sure what rumors were around last year and this is a simple bit of info that I thought was worth sharing.
