Theres gonna be a lot of teams on the QB market, it wouldn’t surprise me if multiple teams pass on him to get one early.

GMs are not exactly draft geniuses, especially the ones on ****** teams.

But yeah, #6 seems to be excessive.
 
Jordan Reid did another first round mock draft on espn.

Justin Scott at 29 and Ahmad Moten at 30. No other canes which is odd considering he has Mensah ranked third earlier in the summer.

More interestingly as Field Yates and Mel Kiper were talking about Damon Wilson, Mel Kiper said that we could see five Miami defensive linemen selected in the 2027 draft and all five would go fairly highly (2 DT cocaine bears, kangaroo edges in Wilson and Lightfoot, and shape shifting Armando Blount would be the fifth guy).

This, of course, is the most bittersweet scenario for us….but the reloading burden would not be so bad if we flip DJ Jacobs.

We’d still be in a bit of a limbo where we would need to get at least two premium DL portal players, one inside and one outside.
 
Top ten picks only; Darian Mensah goes #9 to the Falcons. Find it quite odd that Yates leads off talking about Mensah’s athletic limitations.

For two reasons: first, i don’t really believe he has any. Deciding not to run doesn’t mean he can’t run—we even saw this with Carson Beck. However, secondly, Darian is more fluid and faster, I’d venture that outta the 3 qbs above him only Arch can beat him in a forty (and I’m not sure that’s for certain); both Peyton Manning and Patrick Mahomes ran 4.8s. Mensah was running 4.7s as a teenager; wouldn’t be surprised if he is in the 4.6 range and his shiftiness is stronger than his straight-line speed.

Mensah had more chunk-yardage rushes in HS and i hope we give him some opportunities to run even if they are 4-7 yard gains with him sliding down earlier than necessary to be safe.

Moore, Arch, Carr, Smith, Simmons, Moore (CB), Stewart, Robinson IV, Mensah and Cam Coleman in that order.

 
Yates says he thinks Mestemaker will return to school and he would’ve taken him already if he thought he was coming out this year. . . . Yates definitely not a DM fan as he says Mensah isn’t in his top twenty players.

Mel on the other hand, is more positive about Mensah. . . . Last year, in the conference championship week prior to the CFP, Kiper’s top 10 quarterbacks in order were Moore, Mendoza, Simpson, Mateer, Mensah, Beck, Sorsby, Chambliss, Nussmeier, then Maiava.

In searching for one of Mensah’s running touchdowns, I had to see Bauman fumble against Navy in the AAC conference championship game in 2024. Pitiful.

Mel also higher than most on Fletcher and Lofton. Says Fletcher’s production against the best defenses made him look like more of a first round running back than Baugh or Lacey. Additionally, Mel mentions he thought about taking Moten or Scott before taking Coleman at 10.

But again, how many of those (dozen or so guys) will actually come out and have good years? Also, there's always the Cam Wards -- a guy people aren't talking about that's all of sudden in Top 30."

Another executive pointed out the confluence of factors that's led to the depth -- Moore's unconventional decision to come back after being projected in the Top 5, Chambliss getting an extra year by a court order and Sorsby deciding to transfer to Texas Tech when he had strong NFL interest. "There's guys more guys this year," the executive said. "It's a perfect storm."

This weekend offers two showcase games for scouts and NFL executives - No. 1 Ohio State (Sayin) vs. No. 4 Texas (Manning) and Oklahoma State (Mestemaker) hosting No. 6 Oregon.

In Austin, there will be 22 scouts from 17 different teams and one general manager (Miami Dolphins) slated to be there for the talented teams, headlined by Manning and Sayin. In Stillwater, there's slated to be 20 scouts and executives from 13 different teams, including the general managers from the Arizona Cardinals and Atlanta Falcons. Much of that attention can be Stillwater can be attributed to wanting to see Moore live.

While Mestemaker's immediate draft stock took a hit after Oklahoma State's opening loss to Tulsa, there's still plenty of intrigue around him in NFL circles. He fits in the crop of prospects that have draft eligibility and could return to be projected at the top of the 2028 draft, an inevitable by-product of this crowded class.

This is the third year that ESPN has conducted this poll, and the earliest it's been done. The exercise has been proven to be fluid, as in early October of 2024Colorado's Shedeur Sanders was the top vote getter. In late September of last year, Sellers was the top vote getter, topping Garrett Nussmeier.

Kinda hilarious for the executive to not know the last time it happened when the last time wasn’t that long ago (2024).

Six quarterbacks were selected in the first round—Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, Michael Penix Jr., J. J. McCarthy, and Bo Nix—tying the record from 1983. The six were within the first 12 picks, with five in the top 10. Conversely, for the first time since the 1970 AFL–NFL merger, no quarterbacks were selected in the second through fourth rounds. Seven wide receivers were also selected in the first round, tying the record from 2004. A record 23 offensive players were selected in the first round, with 14 consecutive offensive players to start the draft.

Mensah is in rarified air all by himself.

He's the clear cut best QB in the Nation & should be the #1 pick.

Every other QB after that would be a reach in the 1st round IMO.

Mestemaker probably goes 1st around if he declares as well, but I think he could use another season to polish up some of his mechanical issues & get more settled playing against P4 talent.

But every other QB, will be overdrafted like usual.
 
I think now is when the shift starts regarding Chambliss as a NFL draft prospect. Would be stunning for him to not go in the top 3, and they’ll start to look at how Bryce young played vs uga compared to Chambliss vs uga in the playoffs; and how Chambliss looked against us.

Me if i were an NFL fan of a team who took manning or Moore; or Carr / Saiyan instead of Chambliss or Mensah
