That he could not sniff the field when the competition was wide open and we were desperate for decent LB play speaks volumes. Every LB flashed at times but I don't remember anything of note from him aside from missed tackles on kickoffs.
Bingo!!!

Huff reminds me of a hyped kid coming in and in reality his contribution will be as a special teams kid who will play as hard as he can there. Similar to a Carl walker if any of you remember the name. High rated kids who for whatever reason just can't get beyond that point of being just a special teams demon
Walker had tough career luck - came in and played ST as a true frosh in '00, then again in '01 on title team but hurt his shoulder also. Given the talent on those teams, that's a normal start to his career. In '02, he was a back-up/ST and then had a season ending knee injury in Oct.

He was a good athlete who wasn't really a LB or DB, IMO. But in our more recent years, he'd probably have played a lot and done decently. Tough era, tough injuries, and something of an athletic tweener. Maybe he would have made a good striker.

I would have this line of thinking if the coaches were even someone competent but we don't have a single coach (including Diaz) who has a ******* clue what they're doing with regards to finding and developing linebackers. That's why I'm so disappointed nothing was done here. For all we know, Huff might be actually be the best backer on the team.

Lol exactly. Everyone calling this kid a bust yet nobody has seen him get any meaningful snaps when those same *** fans know **** well this defensive staff plays favorites and seniority over talent.

We just graduated 1st and 2nd team all ACC linebackers.

Who developed them?

Avery Huff:
Per 247 - #12 OLB in the Nation ; #207 overall player in the Nation

Yet, here at Miami, he can’t grasp the playbook.

Well what about his teammate at Aquinas, Bonitto. Both similar in height & stature.
Nik Bonitto:
Per 247 - #17 OLB in the Nation ; #220 overall player in the Nation

Yet, there at Oklahoma, he’s one of the best OLBs in ALL of CFB!

So, I’m going to keep asking this ? until I get an honest, satisfying answer:

How in THEE FCK is 247 consistently wrong w/ our “blue chip” evaluations, yet 247 is “correct” on other team’s blue chip players??

I’ve now heard for the 7 yrs I’ve been on this site every excuse used to justify our recruiting failures:
1. Not enough talent (bull chit per our class rankings)

2. Misevaluated (bull chit per the # of 4 stars that’s been on this roster)

3. Guys not grasping the playbook (bull chit per our coaches & players saying the playbooks have been simple)

4. Not enough practice time (bull chit per EVERY FCKIN TEAM IN AMERICA)

5. Injuries/set backs (bull chit per EVERY FCKIN TEAM IN AMERICA)

How bout a real simple answer: continuing to hire **** poor coaches, w/ a **** poor vision of what Miami football is & should be, along w/ a **** poor S&C program that focuses on the wrong chit like “GPS MPH Tracking” which is fraudulent af.

There is absolutely no way we can continue to see blue chip guys look like blue tortilla chips class after class. It cannot continue to be any of those 5 excuses....for 10+ yrs??

We just graduated two 1st team all ACC linebackers.

Who developed them?
Their high school coaches. McCloud actually got way worse in college,
Pinckney was the same aka didn't get developed at all, Shaq got a little better but not much (and probably due to his own hard work).

But you're right, Manny left the position in a great position after Golden's recruits (that he didn't develop at all) left. So I now ask you, who is responsible for the **** we saw this year?

Really?

Good Lord ok.

I dumbed it down as much as possible, sorry if you still can't understand what I was saying.

Also, good work on not answering my question to you on who is responsible for the wonderful lb "development" we witnessed this year. That's a better approach than actually trying to answer.

As always, it’s not either or but both.

you’re wrong that they’re right on all evaluations other than ours. You’re picking the examples where they’re right but go examine their top 30 by position over time. It’s not only our guys who are mis-rated. We do evaluate poorly. And some of it os fit for scheme, also. We do a lot of things poorly.

Brother; I gave a specific example of two guys who played at the same high school w/ the same physical traits. That’s it. I have 15+ yrs of examples, bro. Lol. We say team A or team B is so much more “talented” than us, but how could that always be when we have consistently recruited in the top 15 year after year? So how is 247 correct on majority of the players that other top 15 teams have recruited, but for some reason, our 247 rankings are “flawed?” Every year for 15 years??? Lol.

So you think we’ve been solid at evals just bad at development?

that’s just not true.

we’ve been bad at more than one thing.

edit: and your comparison set is wrong to compare to 'a majority of the players other top 15 teams have recruited.' And not just because we're not a top 15 team the past 15 years. Most top teams are better than us in part because they're better evaluators. So it makes sense that the kids they take work out better. That's not because 247 evaluated them better. You're confusing cart and horse. You haven't shown some study that 247 is generally spot on and its only UM kids who aren't panning out. I'm pretty sure that study doesn't exist. They may be okay 'on average' as a ranking system, but there's plenty of variance in the system.
