Was thinking about the returning roster and how many spots we have available for the 2016 class. So I went through the roster to list everyone that has eligibility to return. Here is what I came up with:

QB- Kaaya, Rosier, Shirreffs, Testaverde, Crow-- (5)

RB- Yearby, Walton, Edwards, Gray, Tucker-- (5)

WR- Coley, Berrios, Brady, Cager, Lewis, Langham, Jones-- (7)

TE- Dobard, Njoku, Washington, Herndon, O'Donnell-- (5)

OL- Darling, McDermott, Brown, Knighton, Mahoney, Isidora, Odogwu, Gall, Linder, Grimsley, Gauthier, Loftus, Jones, Milo-- (14)

DE- Thomas, AQM, Patchan, Willis, Jackson-- (5)

DT- Norton, McIntosh, Jenkins, Fines, Moten, Moore, Hamilton-- (7)

LB-Grace, Gayot, Harris, Perry, King, Gordiner, Smith, Owens, McCray, Young-- ((10)

CB- Burns, Henley, Redwine, Mayes, Jackson-Kerr, Elder-- (6)

S- Johnson, Carter, Knowles, Jenkins-- (4)

K-P- Badgley, Vogel-- (2)

-That makes a total of 70 players with eligibility that can return in 2016. As far as I know we have a full availability of scholarships next year, 85, so that makes 15 players we can bring in this 2016 class as of now.

- Of course, we had a coaching change, there may be some transfers, some guys may quit, get their scholarship pulled, enter the draft early, etc.

-I've heard rumors that Gray Crow left the team for a period of time and debating quitting. I think he decided to stick out the rest of the year and will not return, that opens up a spot.

- Other possibilities to leave via draft, quit, have scholarship pulled, etc. (just my opinion)- Burns (draft), O'Donnell (never plays), D'Mauri Jones (never plays), Hamilton (never plays), Moore (never plays), Grimsley (never plays), Knighton (never plays), Tucker (has disappeared), Lewis (disappeared)-- That is 10 more potential spots that could open, making a total of 26.

- Last note, not 100% that Vinny Testaverde and Justin Vogel are on scholarship. I thought they were. Any feedback on guys I missed that are on scholarship or guys I included that aren't is appreciated.

- By this breakdown, it looks like we have anywhere from 15-26 scholarships available for the class of 2016, with 18 players currently committed. Obviously, some more guys than expected may leave, and some I expect to leave or have scholarship pulled may not.

Knighton will stay, Tucker IMO gets used much more with the new coach and Lewis maybe but if I had to guess I'd say he stays too

Crow, Jones, O'Donnell, Moore, Hamilton definitely should not be on scholarship next year.

But I also think that we are signing quite a few early enrollees for the 2016 class, and I think that means technically they can count for this past class. But I could be wrong, as I'm not completely sure.

I could also see Tucker, Edwards, Lewis, and an OL or two leaving.
I can see Coley and Burns leaving early (they shouldn't) for the draft.

I think it'll all work out so that we have about 25 scholarships this year. Also, who knows, if we really needed it, Burns or Tucker could possibly move onto a track scholarship (Butch used to do it). Rosier could move to a baseball scholarship if they have any room, etc.

I think Gus Edwards should probably leave. I think the only way he plays at all is if he moves to FB. Yearby and Walton are much better than him, and they are younger. And honestly, Travis Homer should immediately be above him on the depth chart too. Trayone should probably be moved to WR by the new coach.

Gus had played his way to the starting TB in the spring before his knee blew up...Expect to see big things from him next year...

It was a foot injury not a knee. But I agree he has potential to be really good. I expect Yearby to really break through this offseason though getting bigger and stronger and faster. We'll see if he takes that next step.

As of right now, subject to change, we have 16 slots. Badgley is not yet on scholarship.

It is highly unlikely that we have a recruiting class of 25.

EEs are irrelevant to the 85 scholarship roster limit.

They'll be transfers, plus we get back scholarships, some early entrees, blue shirts, and scholarships pulled, we'll be alright numbers wise.

Mark Walton averaging 3.8 yards a carry...its not hard to be better than that

Gus is better then Mark really and itmay not be that close. Mark does many things right but Gus can make a bigger impact all around

I know some of our players haven't produced, but I always feel grimy talking about whether they deserve a scholarship.

Testaverde and Henley are not 'ship players. Crow, Hamilton, Moore, ODonnell, and jones will have graduated. Burns is all but gone. That's 8 you need to subtract from your 70 bringing us to 62. That's easily 23 we will sign and I expect a few more...

Don't worry about the numbers as they always work out. The good in all this is that we should have 85 'ship players on the team for the first time in quite some time!

I know Henley is. He was a late addition to the class but they offered him.

Knighton plays Special teams currently.

Tucker is on specials as well

Grimnsley is like a rs freshman he aint going any where

They redshirted Hamilton/Moore for whatever reason...if they didnt do that i would thought they were pushing them out....But it will be a toss up for spring on them too. Moore is on special teams as well (Punt team)

There will definately transfers when new coach comes...and graduates lookinbg for PT elsewhwere. Guys like DMAURI Jones could go and get PT elsewhere....Odonnell as well..because we are stacked at his spot but he didnt look bad in spring imo.

Would love to see the new coach go after Travonte Valentine and every top CB in the state

Agreed. With last years line Walton is in the conversation, but with this young OL core we are a better team right now with a healthy 235 lb. back with speed and much improved pad level. Walton will go higher in the draft IMO
