Im hearing alot of this maybe Manny is staying and people saying maybe if they cant get Cristobal they will stick with Diaz. This particularly line of reasoning is ****ing me off. Ima explain why.
The attitude and mentality starts at the top. Remember last season when We got steamrolled by UNC and gave up 800 yards, 550 rushing. Blake Baker should have been fired after that game. If Diaz didn't do it, Waste James should have called and say you fire Blake or its you. If Waste didn't, the people with power should have. Nothing happened, excuses were made. Remember when Diaz had the same performance v BYU at Texas?...he was fired immediately. In big boy football somethings are unacceptable. No reasoning can justify it. Getting smoked like that at home and staying means anything is ok. Attitude and mentality
We come to this season, worse tackling team in the nation. Note how serious schools operate. They dont care about toilet bowl qualifications, not USC...who has been mediocre almost as long as we have, and not LSU. Coaches fired mid season. We were a laughing stock, worse in many categories and notorious for being the worse tackling team seen to man. No one was fired to atleast let the fans know we hear your concern, we know this is unacceptable. Attitude and mentality
So we move to the point where the admin is feeling the heat and Herbstreit's rant. They make a move and fire Blake James, good move. Apparently it was for not firing Diaz. So my question is how did Blake James get fired for not firing Diaz but somehow Diaz staying is being pondered? And i assume its being pondered because they can make all kinda excuses as to why they kept Diaz for the whole season, fine you did. The season is over, today we should be hearing Diaz is cleaning out his office, not in kids home acting like he is coming back. I know the buyout issue has been talked about. A proper admin tells Diaz the whole staff is being evaluated, don't go recruiting and you publicly announce that. You put the fans on notice. Then you announce he is canned the minute the buyout falls. With or without a AD. Period. Diaz staying should never be something this school even gives the impression its being considered. Alot of you have been banding about 5-1 and blah blah. Let me make something clear, i respect Pitt and NC St for their record with the type of recruits they get. I don't respect them as any type of standard to reach or is it an achievement to beat them. The other 4 teams in the 6 game stretch were GT, VT and Duke...each either fired all or some of their coaching staff. And the big one FSU we lost to. Nuff said.
Stop allowing the wool to be pulled over your eyes. This is the same Diaz who gets blown out as soon as the team recruiting classes are not ranked higher than 30s. Lets also not forget the part of the team which carried those wins is now moving on with Lashlee. Diaz may get another Lashlee, he could also get Enos. And no one has any idea what will be the defense identity going forward. Its has gotten worse every season since Diaz became the HC. Anyone have any hope it will improve? If Diaz comes back here, Texas A&M will smoke us in college station. Him coming back should not even be given a 2nd thought.
Move to my final point on Attitude and Mentality. There are multiple coaches i think who can put us to the top of the Coastal. My top 4 was Hugh Freeze, Cristobal, Lane and Mark Stoops. All of those guys would have us playing for the ACC title in 2 season or less imo. But i don't know which one of them would have us right at the top of college football. And in my opinion thats gonna need a major change of Attitude and Mentality for that to happen. And in my opinion the 2 people who gives us the best shot of doing this and turning the entire program around, even the mentality of some of us fans need to change. Mario and Mark Stoops. People talk of Mario ties, but Stoops also has ties here. Stoops also coached FSU title defense in 2013 and when he left they started the nose dive. Their team took on his mentality. The Attitude him and Cristobal brings is what we NEED, more than Lane's coaching.
And Yes i would take Lane and be happy so don't come at me. The great teams are teams where the players organize their own practices, take responsibilty for the wins and losses, not some of the players, all of them. And the few who don't, feels like outcasts. With Diaz's favoritism, it creates fractures in the team. Its the things the players do when its not game day that makes them great. Diaz does not have it. Mario or Stoop wont take no **** from these players. You can go over schemes all you want. Every coach has some strength and weaknesses. Lane, Cristobal and Stoops, great coaches, all have been on championship teams in some capacity. But what we need is a serious Attitude and mentality adjustment more than everything else.
Btw i don't know Lane as a person, i know he is a great coach but when people talk about him, they talk about his offense etc. So he could well get all the softness out. I just know i will get that from Mario and Stoops guaranteed.
Keeping Diaz past this weekend we show that even though we are saying this is different and we are gonna start spending and money not an issue, we are seeing some of the same Attitude and mentality that has us on this decline for decades now. Why exactly is Diaz out taking pics with people kids in Miami gear? Dont remember Shannon or Golden out recruiting the following Sunday. Go take days off we are evaluating the football program. Thats what you tell Diaz after the game Saturday.
