This "event town" thing is only a part of it. A UiF or F$U has so many students that only a small percentage of them need to be interested in going to a game for the student section to be full. For ours to be full, a much larger percentage have to go.
Second, these big state schools have ****eloads of alums. They can be very casual fans who may go to a game only once every 2 years. But guess what? There are a lot of them, so that adds up quickly for an individual game. We don't have that kind of numerical affiliation.
Third, we are located at a geographic extreme. Other than F$U, no one sells their away allotment. Ever been to a game vs. GT or UNC? There are literally 50 away fans. A school like UGA, which is close to Atlanta, will ALWAYS have its away allotment sold and asses in the seats. We can't count on that.
If anything, the fact that we are a small private school at a geographic extreme, means we actually outdraw what should be expected of us. The attendance issue is really tiring.
