I had to LMAO while watching the Miss.St./KansasSt game the announcers were tripping over their own ****s making excuses for a ****** crowd...”it’s just too hot”.
This. I remember people losing their **** in like 2009 when there were only like 30k for ACC games vs Wake or whoever saying "it was never like this at the Orange Bowl!" Proving they never went to the boring conference games vs Pitt/Rutgers/Temple, et al. at the Orange Bowl.I remember nooners against Rutgers drawing like 25,000 people topppps to the shrine that was The OB. People engage in revisionist history. Only remember the best of the way past while choosing to focus on the worst of the near past or current day.
Take a look of the OOC games we played back in the 90's and early 2000's when we were in the Big East. What happened to those? This year's home schedule is a snoozefest.
Very weak home schedule this year. Best game by far is the UVA game. VA Tech Ga Tech Lville are not very good. We used to play a much better home schedule when we were in the Big East
Truly, it did.Looked like 500 people on tv. Blue seats are not a good disguise.
Back in the early & mid 80s...UM...FSU...ND...etc were all independents....We played Tough f-ing schedules back then...FSU was an OOC game back then. Miami also played in a significantly smaller conference, and you had more OOC slots available. Teams were also more likely to play true Home and Home series. If the UF game was a home game this year, most of our "Fans" wouldn't be whining about the home schedule.
Truly, it did.
What quarter was this, because a lot off people cleared it after halftimeYep. Looked like entire sections were empty.
Announced attendance is the number of tickets sold. I want to say UM sold like 48k season tickets so those automatically get counted whether the owners show up or not. I was at the game and would venture actual attendance was in the 35-40k range.Does anyone know how they actually track attendance? Is it tickets sold? It would seem that way. There is no way that there were 52,000 people at that game. Maybe 52,000 people bought tickets but half did not bother to show up.
I was VERY impressed with the crowd. 0-2 team facing Bethune? We should have been lucky to draw 25,000.
Yup. Maybe it's an age thing. I went to nearly all those cupcake games during the "glory years," and for those noon or 3 pm games vs. Temple or Pitt or Rutgers you'd get 25-30K max. **** I remember in 2000 when it looked like we were going to the NC game a huge game against BC only drew 40K. If anything, attendance is better now. Also, UM never averaged over 62k in attendance in the Orange Bowl even though capacity was over 73k. You would get 75k with the added bleachers for FSU and s week later there's be 30k for Rutgers. Go watch some of the old 2001 highlights. Huge sections of the stands are completely empty against Temple and some of the other garbage teams.
I am not 100% positive but I believe the 3 year Richt run is the best 3 year run for attendance in school history. I know they set a season ticket record in 2017 and broke it in 2018.Yup. It seems like that during our best years we might have had poor crowds for garbage teams. Don't remember for sure. I rarely went to home games because I lived up north. It's built-in to our fairly unique status as a smaller urban university. We are not a huge university with a massive alumni base. Most football powers are like that.I remember nooners against Rutgers drawing like 25,000 people topppps to the shrine that was The OB. People engage in revisionist history. I remember that mustache.I was telling my son yesterday about the upper level restrooms in the OB - you get caught in a line there you were going to miss a lot. I missed one of the five NFL Passing Records Danny broke in the last Monday night game against Dallas one season. But man, I still loved the place. As a kid, saw Joe Namath there when he had the Fu Man Chu in a pre-season game they brought our undefeated Charlotte (Punta Gorda) Jr High "Hurricanes" to a game. He trotted over to a bunch of us on the rail after the game and an interview and asked, "What did you guys think of the game?". That was cool as heck.
