Athlon ranking of CFB rosters

And brian Burns, after that? Not much
Yeah, they certainly have had a handful of super talented players, but they can not overcome the lack of discipline eating that program up. Just one big, steaming pile of burning ****.

That program needs a complete, complete cleansing, and I don't think the administration will ever do it. The boys will be boys attitude has gone on for so long, that is their culture now.

We’re behind the other 2 Florida teams in 247sports talent composite too. We’re #17 in their talent rankings. https://247sports.com/season/2019-football/collegeteamtalentcomposite/

Really not very good. Although when your program was never anything more than nouveau riche in the first place and is now going through a roughly 15 year down period (or a reversion to its actual historic norm depending on what way you view things), it’s somewhat to be expected.
@RVACane @South Side Chi Cane

Make sure to wet the sponge.

All they did was average the recruiting rankings for the past 5 years, there's really no need to argue.

it would be interesting to see how Athlon would rank the coaching staffs in CFB

So we're behind Texas & Tennessee in terms of underachieving.

Add in South Carolina & Nebraska and Miami might only be the 5th most underachieving team in that Top 25.

Eh , that kind of goes hand to hand in retrospect. Miami has signed a higher ranked recruiting class than FSU in 2 of the last 3 years. Most of that talent fsu has had from 2016 to now hasnt amounted to anything, draft results shows that. Miami is recruiting better and developing players better than FSU is doing right now and it’s not really all that close.

Last 3 drafts Miami has had 20 players drafted while FSU has had only 12 in that same time span despite having a significant higher recruiting average compared to Miami the last 5 years or so.

Miami has had more talented roster than FSU for a number of years now and that’s not changing anytime soon. Just go position by position, it’s clear
Don't forget how many average-*** players we've had that the NFL loves. The NFL can see that we've got good guys who aren't being developed.

FSU doesn’t have more talent than Miami whatsoever and hasn’t had for years, look at how many more miami players have been drafted over fsu for like the last 4-5 years, that trend will continue for the conceivable future as well.

Miami has Quantity. FSU has Quality. And that's the big difference.

In the last 4 drafts:

Miami - 20 players drafted / 1 in Rounds 1-2
FSU - 12 players drafted / 6 in Rounds 1-2

Jalen Ramsey, Dalvin Cook, Derwin James - those guys are already among the best at their position in the NFL. None of the 20 Miami guys are even close to that level.

They have had more premium talent in some of those drafts over Miami with guys like Ramsey, cook, James, Burns due to great recruiting at the top of the class under jimbo so that’s expected and not saying much.(4 5stars, one top 40 talent outside of aguayo)

They have generally recruited better under jimbo than Miami did so of course they would have more premium draft talent those years (one of those top 2 round picks was a Aguayo so do with that as you will). That’s gone now however, regardless of where Miami players are picked they have more staying power in the league than mosts schools despite a modest 15th overall recruiting rank or less over the years(with still being top 7 or so in players drafted the last couple years, I think Top 5 really). If you recruit better you get more high end picks it’s simple

. Who has more quality talent now? Miami or FSU? Easily miami

I think you're underselling it.

- FSU's recruiting under Jimbo was ridiculously better and it wasn't even close. It wasn't "generally" better.
- The last 3 years since Jimbo left FSU/Miami recruiting classes have been very close
- Miami doesn't "easily" have more talent than FSU now. I agree Miami does, but it's still very close and very debatable.
- You can't trade 3 or 4 NFL backups (Miami guys) for a Pro Bowl NFL player (FSU guys). It's not equal value.

It’s the old talent argument. Is a team more talented because it has more guys who were highly regarded high school players? Even if a large number of those highly regarded players never live up to their hype? Is. 5 star bust more talented than a 3 star all conference player? This whole list is just a massive over simplification.

It's a numbers game, with imperfect math.

Let's say from 2010 - 2020 - 0% of Miami's 5 stars become busts, while 50% of FSU's 5 Stars become busts.

Miami - 6 of their 6 5 star recruits become great players
FSU - 13 of their 26 5 star recruits become great players

FSU now has way more busts, but way more great players.

Does getting more 5 Star recruits mean you'll always be the more talented team? No
Does getting more 5 Star recruits mean the odds are stacked WAY in your favor to be the more talented team? Yes

They only became busts and weren’t drafted in the NFL because they were coached by Willie Taggart. FSU didn’t have bad evaluations.

What’s with the denial that Taggart was a terrible coach who could barely beat Samford and La Monroe with the 5th most talented roster in CFB?

We are underachieving, but I honestly don’t think our talent is that great.

Thank you for using the word "than" correctly and not "then". Yes, it's a peeve of mine, along with double negatives...

Anyone who uses the term nouveau riche on a football blog should take an immediate 48 hour self ban to evaluate every aspect of their life.

No, there really is. At least on here. Surprised so haven't seen how we're disrespected in the rankings dropped yet.

People love to argue about the dumbest crap.
