Thompkins, who committed to Louisville in late May but has not shut down his recruitment, has kept in touch with Miami’s staff after being offered in late July. The Hurricanes have shown interest in getting him to South Florida for a game this fall although he hasn’t looked to see which games he could attend. He said Mississippi State also offered him as a defensive player.

“They said they can see me as a perfect fit on their defense,” Thompkins said. “I’m willing to play anything on either side. I want to be able to help a team get a national championship. …I want to be able to play running back obviously. Louisville trusts me to be able to play running back. I told Miami I still haven’t signed anything, but I’m willing to play anything to be able to help a team win a national championship.”

“I’ve never been to Miami, so I feel like it would be a fun time going down there to visit,” Thompkins said. “I know Cam Ward went there. They had a **** of a season with him there last year as well.”

“Coach (Chris) Barclay, he showed me a lot of love,” Thompkins said. “He gave me a chance to play the position I want to play at the next level. He talks to me 24/7. Miami is starting to talk to me like that too. It just kind of felt like home (at Louisville), but you never know. I just know Miami is a beautiful campus. Everything down around there is beautiful. The team is really good. So I’m excited for this upcoming season.”
