At this point, if Golden stays......(Long)

Butch never won anything at UNC, continued getting schooled by Beamer (3 out of 4 times) and even managed to lose to Shannon. Oh, and he also got UNC involved in an NCAA scandal. And to think he can recruit like he did 15 years ago, before the rise of the SEC, is sheer fantasy-- which is why Butch hasn't been able to find a college job the last 3 years. Coley is a better recruiter now. The boys he recruited for FSU are playing tomorrow.

And the guys Butch has recruited at Miami and UNC play on Sundays.

TRock305, you know and I know that 1995 team was VERY overrated. We only got that ranking because of the 10-2 ranking the year before. And Butch still went 8-3 AND 6-1 IN CONFERENCE. If we had went 6-1 in conference this year we would have been in the ACC title game.

1998? LOL. You mean right smack in the middle of FSUs dynasty years? And when they were spittin' out #1 recruiting classes on a yearly basis? Lol. Ok. I will play this game. He still went 9-3. When Santana and the crew were all sophomores. And Edgerrin was a junior. I would think he did ok seeing that the core of his team were still young.

So you are basically giving me examples where in Butch's WORSE YEARS (not counting 97'. That year should be striken from our history books) he won 9 games. That was Als BEST year here without sanctions. (shrugs) Ok.

There are some ridiculous comments floating around all Miami websites the last few days. People saying he is in over his head are just living in la la land. Other schools have made runs at him every since he got here. Those in the administration know what we have in him and want to keep him. You just don't deal with the obstacles he has encountered since arriving here and build the kind of program we want in three seasons. I want him to stay but I am not pleased if he has been dealing with Penn State since before Christmas and just playing us along.

Bro, HE WAS AT UNC!!! LOL! They should have been happy just to be RELEVANT! Which oh by the way, THEY HADNT BEEN IN 10 YEARS! (Mack left in 97'. Butch came in 2006)

Listen I can see you are not a Butch fan. So we will agree to disagree here.

So what? I'd prefer it if they won while they were at UM.

2001 widely considered the greatest collection of talent on one CFB team. Legit argument for a shot at the 2000 BCS title (would've won a 4-team playoff for sure), and for the 2002 title. Who knows what else they could've done under his leadership, but I'd say 3 legit shots in a row at the title is pretty **** impressive.

If we don't hire Petrino, I feel I'm going to be extremely disappointed with any other likely candidate.

Chud is so bland.

Butch....meh. He is a great talent evaluator, however, it's far from a guarantee he'll ever come close to that again. We're chasing a ghost with him. I wouldn't be upset. His coaching tree contacts are intriguing and he's season'd. Just remember what you wished for.

Anyone critical of Butch on running a program from top to bottom and stacking the deck with NFL talent needs their cot dam heads examined.

We all prefer many things, I would prefer a 2nd chance for Butch to try to fulfill your original preferences. Many Cane's fans would give Olive Garden (Petrino) a 2nd chance. If the University is serious about their football program and formerly established brand they will seriously consider Butch and Olive Garden.

Lots of short memories (or people too young to remember) around here. Sure, his staff (which included a couple of other candidates, i.e. Chud & Schiano) recruited some of the best players in cfb history, but I would venture a guess that UM would never have won a NC under Botch. In 2001, Coker won a 2-pt game over Beamer to go undefeated; in 2002, he won a one-point game over FSU. One bad gametime decision would have lost these games, and Botch was one bad gametime-decision making coach.

Anyone who wants Butch back wants him as a recruiter. We have a good recruiter in Coley. What we need is a good coach/strategist. Botch ain't it.

The only thing Golden did that all Miami teams before him were guilty of - all the way back to Schnellenberger - is we stopped the offsides. For almost three decades prior, we were some of the most heavily penalized teams in CFB. Fact.

Don't give him that offside crap. Because all we did now is telegraph to the other team when we are going to snap the ball. It's ridiculous and eerily similar to the dolphins.

No one is critical of him "running a program". I was in Seattle for Butch's last loss as a Hurricane coach. It wasn't pretty. Now it's silly to think he hasn't grown from that time but I doubt he's gotten significantly better.

The stuff with Butch being known as "Botch" also happened when he had to deal with a real cloud. Short 25+ scholarships, FSU and UF winning titles at our expense, and more. I watched a lot of his games at UNC, and the sideline craziness he became known for here just didn't happen in Chapel Hill. After all, that was over 15 years ago. At 62, he's not going to do well here, and then up and leave when a bigger offer comes his way. He's too old at this point.

I've said it already 3 times and I'll say it again, the worst possible scenario that happens with us hiring Butch is that he stacks our roster to the gills with future NFL studs but isn't able to win us a title. Only to have his successor take that talent and win a championship with it.

UNC was the perfect job for him. Much less pressure to win at a basketball school than to win at UM. Too bad his experience was stained by NCAA violations.

Once Al is gone this off season or in a yr or two the only good memory of him will be lying next to Malcolm Lewis. At this pt he's dead to me w/ the ongoing fiasco and silence. Can never believe another word out of his mouth as most of the players probably already feel...

Butch isn't a bad #2 or #3 option...but I would give the same medical recommendation you just gave to anyone who prefers Butch over Petrino as your head coach.

It's not even close.

If Al is denied by PSU for it's HC position. He should be fired seconds afterwards by Donna, and Blake.
