At this point, if Golden stays......(Long)

At this point, does anyone really want Al Golden to stay? Especially if he keeps D'Onofrio?

If so, why?

Can u imagine IF he does stay.......keeps Dorito, but the way he handled this damages our incoming class. This could be UGLY. I have no problem with him staying provided he changes DC and scheme and is able to keep class in tact.

But Golden is supposed to be a brilliant recruiter? Why would he need Coley? Coley is the guy we need to keep here. Golden has done an ok job. His recruiting will not improve, and we can't settle for getting half the talent that comes out of South Florida every year. Kids grow up dreaming about playing for Miami, just like Cook. We need someone to close with these kids. Cook, Lane, and Rudolph should absolutely be a part of this class. Cloud is gone, these kids all decided after the cloud was lifted. The only cloud still in Miami is D'Nofrio.

To be fair, this really is year one for Golden in terms of recruiting and he has put a pretty good class together, and claims to have some silent commitments who may surprise us. If you want to be mad at Golden, focus on the non-recruiting aspects-- Louisville, Duke, VT...

I remember the Butch Davis sideline circus on game days. He was seriously unhinged. Multiple 12 men on the field penalties, delay of games after time outs, crazy decision making, and ridiculous game decisions. It was pandemonium and panic, like a Shannon sideline.

That '99 PSU game is the synopsis of Butch Davis Gameday Coaching.

And he has spent time in the bughouse since then, so I'd say he is not much better.

And Golden's "silent commitments". LOL! Yeah, they are silently commited alright. To other schools.

Worst case scenario:
Golden & D'Onofrio stay and both get pay raises.

That would be the ultimate sign of incompetence from Blake James.

Huge stretch to say this is year one, but I understand your point. Either way, we've lost a ton of talent this year. I agree it's "pretty good", but that's not gonna get us to where we need to be. Almost forgot one of the best players - Michel. Never even in contention for him. Pretty big joke for such a great recruiter. We need to catch up to FSU who is light years ahead of us right now and only getting better.

Trock305, Look no further then the job he did at UNC to see get a modern read on what Butch can do. Buddy stockpiled that team with talent and had them on the national scene and kicking the **** out of us in no time. Butch is up on the times my friend.

And to start bringing up his record against rivals when you know he was on probation and hit with sanctions the majority of his tenure here is not fair. When he actually had an even playing field our team was a national contender.

Is he the best in game coach? Maybe not. But he is more seasoned and has had time to sit back and hone his craft. He isnt perfect. But one thing we know is that he will stockpile so much talent here that it might not even matter ESPECIALLY in the $hitty ACC. Where you only have a 2 game schedule if you got the talent and even a little sense of how to coach on gameday. (which Butch does) AND HE WILL IMMEDIATELY have the respect of every relevant recruit not only in SoFla but in the entire nation. He also has ties so that we can actually get a competent DC in here.

Even though I dont think its gonna happen..I would like for Butch to get a shot AT THE VERY LEAST at an interview. At least show the fans that you give a **** and that we are facing the reality of FSU going on another dominant run if we dont act fast.

That's my greatest fear.

People were fed up with him after the way the final month of the season went, then the bowl game happened. People also got fed up with him over the way some recruiting battles wound up shaking out. If he comes back now, after all of this, he has to win the ACC next year or his life will be miserable.

With some of us, he stands no chance here no matter what he does. IT'S OVER FOR HIM HERE. The ship has sailed.

I'm grateful for Golden. Aside from Butch, we probably got the right coach that we needed at the time of Shannon's firing. He helped us through the NCAA crap. He brought in some great players and hopefully he is leaving us better off compared to when he first came in..But he reached his ceiling and we are at the point of no return. He did his job. And now he must go.

We need a real coach now. One who will develop football players can stand toe to toe with Jimbo recruiting AND coaching. Thanks Al, but you better not show up for tomorrows press conference

If he wins more next year, 95% of the people calling for him to leave now won't care about any of this. Just look at the revisionist history with Butch to see how attitudes can change.

Golden ain't winning here. His cieling is 3rd in the Coastal with blowout losses to every average or better team we face.

Butch inherited the #6 team in the country, with Ray Lewis and all, and by year 3 had them at 5-6. Probation started in year 2. By 1998, he had a team stacked with future pro-bowlers but still managed to lose to the likes of ECU and, inexplicably, to Syracuse 66-13. Canes fans were screaming "Fire Butch" at the OB because of boneheaded decisions. He then left the program the second more money was offered. For those who don't remember what it was like when Butch was around, here is a trip down memory lane for you:

The stuff with Butch being known as "Botch" also happened when he had to deal with a real cloud. Short 25+ scholarships, FSU and UF winning titles at our expense, and more. I watched a lot of his games at UNC, and the sideline craziness he became known for here just didn't happen in Chapel Hill. After all, that was over 15 years ago. At 62, he's not going to do well here, and then up and leave when a bigger offer comes his way. He's too old at this point.

I've said it already 3 times and I'll say it again, the worst possible scenario that happens with us hiring Butch is that he stacks our roster to the gills with future NFL studs but isn't able to win us a title. Only to have his successor take that talent and win a championship with it.

WHEN that ship sailed....it did so tossing lighted bottles of gasoline back toward the port.

This community would become chaos. I've said it several times it would be the end of Shannon's tenure all over again...rooting for losses to seal the bum's fate and all sorts of mayhem of that nature.

I was sour on Golden BEFORE all this started due to his poor choice in coordinators...imagine how I feel about him now.

I can't see Al staying at this point, it seems he lost the fans and probably the team and maybe even the backing of the administration.

Problem for BFA is that he won't have as many fruits slurping down the diarrhea he serves us and making excuses for him. He burned all the bridges with this PUS courtship. This year, he still had bozos making excuses for him. Next year, he won't have that luxury because pretty much everyone is fed up with him now after this nonsense.

Compared to all other coaching candidates - ones we can afford - Butch is the only one to assemble a National Championship team. And you forget he was severely undermanned for the bulk of his tenure.

The only thing Golden did that all Miami teams before him were guilty of - all the way back to Schnellenberger - is we stopped the offsides. For almost three decades prior, we were some of the most heavily penalized teams in CFB. Fact.

But we've already tried the unproven, and landed three turds in a row.

And fools want to once again roll the dice.
