The rumor mill on the VT boards is saying that Flubberneck will announce his end-of-season retirement after their Duke game, this week.
yep, and Herman is top of the list.

I don't think that would be a good move for Herman.
Although it sounds like VT is ready to throw a bunch of money at their next coach, so
one never knows.

If a coach really prefers VT to Miami, this program is done.
Might as well drop football, and petition the Big East to join their athletics conference ...

Meh. I'm not worried about that aspect of it. Living in Miami isn't for everyone. And the toxicity surrounding this program right now due to the incompetence of the administration doesn't make the job look very enticing.

I'm in full agreement on the "South Florida isn't for everyone" theory.
But for coaches coming from Houston or Memphis ... IMO, Coral Gables/Miami is closer to their current location than Blacksburg, VA is.
As for the toxicity, that can be overcome fairly easily.
Explain to the prospective candidates that you're willing to take the heat that comes along with giving them the time necessary to be successful at their job. I think the heat Blake James is under is a selling point to prospective coaching candidates .... It's more than words when he says he will back his coaches, even when it's unpopular to do so.
The issue for James will be committing resources to the next coach for staff and continued facilities upgrade, IMO. And that's what I mean by shutting down the program if we can't make a more compelling case than VT ...

I completely agree - I'm just giving you the perspective from hokie "insiders" - they all say Herman is at the top of the admin's list. I'd be shocked if Herman takes it because VT is a meddling ACC team - and his stock is much higher.

The problem, I think, is that an incoming coach may not trust that the current administration that fcked everything up has the ability to do a 180 and create an environment in which he can succeed.

I'm thinking Matt Campbell is a more realistic option for them.
Fuente would be a good fit there, but I don't see him being their next coach.
How many of them are going to try to steal F A G from UM?
I wonder if VT would consider Bud as HC. Bring in a really good OC as AHC/OC.
