While most of the UM assistants on the former staff are aware they’re not being retained, decisions were still pending on at least two: interim coach/tight ends coach Larry Scott (a possibility to stay, but nothing decided as of Tuesday) and receivers coach Kevin Beard (scheduled to interview with Mark Richt)….

At least four new assistant coaches will be announced imminently, a group expected to include former Georgia assistants Todd Hartley and Thomas Brown and former Missouri defensive line coach Craig Kuligowski, who is especially well-regarded. The man Kuligowski replaces, Randy Melvin, is taking a job at Purdue.

Who is the fourth coach?

Hopefully it's Corey Raymond for DB coach. And hopefully LSU's new opening at defensive coordinator doesn't make him a candidate for a promotion there.

This.

Also, can you imagine the DC we get if Raymond doesn't come in as a DC/Co-DC? I imagine they would've mentioned the DC announcement separate from assistant coaches.

He may get that promotion here!

I wouldn't want Raymond to be the DC here yet. With the money we're spending, we should be in the market for a proven coordinator. But Raymond would be a great addition for a secondary that's been poorly coached for years. Ideal combination of proven player development and elite recruiting.

If the proven coordinator we hire does so well that he earns a head-coaching job elsewhere within a few years, then Kuligowski or Raymond could earn the DC promotion down the line.

I posted in another thread that I was reading an LSU message board and their posters aren't even mentioning Raymond, they're talking about Orgeron for DC and keeping their monster dline recruits. If Raymond gets passed over, it could bode well for us.

Would not be excited about Raymond coming as DC, and IMO there is no way that is happening. Richt has maintained that he is going to give full control to the DC. No way he does that with someone green. Plus, Richt is clearly trying to spend as much as possible on assistants. With the level of autonomy and responsibility the DC is going to have, I'm certain he is going to be paid a VERY competitive salary (especially considering that we are saving money to use elsewhere by not having to pay for a real OC). I could see Raymond coming aboard with a Co-DC title like Shannon at UF (Geoff Collins has the DC title and calls plays, Randy is LB coach and gets a Co-DC title).

I want to make it clear, I'm not advocating Raymond as a DC, but FSU's last 2 DCs were position coaches before they were named DC. Pruitt was DB coach and Kelly was DB coach and LB coach. Kelly was a 3 year DC in I-AA 10-15 years ago. Kirby Smart had been a position coach 9 years before Saban made him a DC. There are numerous other examples. Is it just fear of a first time DC? Or Raymond in Particular?

Now that Beamer is gone we pluck Bud Foster..... Hey, no one saw the best D-line coach in the country coming either.

For me, first time DC is the concern, considering here this program has been and Richt being an offensive coach. I'd love him in a DB coach slot with a raise over what Miles pays him at LSU.

No, its guys who have no idea how to evaluate a coach whether he's a seasoned vet or a hot up and comer. I would trust Raymond or kuli to run the D.

Please provide us ignorant ones with your full evaluation

Richt's son may be the 4th.

This is probably the case

Bad move for Mark. Needs to slip his son in after he makes killing DC announcement bringing in old school Cane defense. Then he can mumble his son name while we are all going nuts. And the kid better not be visible -- let's hope he learned that from Bobby. Give the kid a high priced administrative job but DO NOT waste a coaching position on him.

Im all for Raymond as DC....just because he is established, doesn't mean he is any good. Just trust Richt on this. Aint like he is a first time coach from high school bought on for his ties to the community

It aint like the kid isn't qualified for the position of a college QB coach. He has been in the pros as a assistant for years. Golden has scarred us
