As Ed Reed would say, I'm hurt dawg.... but...

That's a lot like trying to change your golf swing on the middle of the course. More likely than not, your whole swing falls apart. It's best to wait until the driving range.

I'm not disagreeing but I don't know if Scaife has worked out in spring and fall at tackle. I know he was serviceable last year at tackle but this is a new offense. Does he know the tackle responsibilities and taken reps to feel comfortable enough to play against UF.

Also, Jordan and Mallory seem more like receiver-type TEs. Do we have an effective blocking TE on the roster? Finally, whatever happened with the fullback? I understand offenses are moving away from use of the FB but if there is a role, it would be helping the OL when they're overwhelmed. The only RB trying to help out was Dallas and I would prefer to see him as an outlet.

Well, it speaks to another thing that I really hoped we would never need to speak to....but apparently we do.

I gave this coaching staff the benefit of the doubt that if they were going with the 2 freshmen at tackle, that they honestly felt they could hold their own at THE most demanding positions on the O-line.

Yeah, that's out the window now and questions are going to start being asked. As a matter of fact, you can even make the argument that Donaldson, for as disappointing as he was at tackle, would have done better yesterday than the two puppies.

To answer your first question, he played tackle ALL last year. At the very least a contingency plan should have been in place.

as I get back to our hotel in Orlando (by the way, had a great time with the likes of 5NXNC, Big Randy, Stefan Adams and many other at the tailgate) Im not happy but unlike last year in Dallas, where I was totally depressed, here, I'm actually hopeful for the future but there's a lot of work to be done

Our young Oline gave up 10 sacks, and yeah it was ugly. Our two young bookend tackles were a huge liability tonight, no other way around it. But Jarren Williams needs to have a better internal clock in there, and the coaches(namely Enos) needs to drill into him that he doesn't have the 2001 unit in front of him. He needs to be reminded that chucking a ball out of bounds is better than setting up 2nd/3rd and 17. But I still like Jarren, this kid showed some stuff, he'll get better. I just wish we would have called more stuff to the backs out in the flat, and believe it or not, some bubbles. I saw too many long-developing plays where blocks had to be held upfront for too long.

I like Jarren, but for the time being, Campbell and Zion handfcuff us a ton. But guess what, I can live with that, yeah, Im getting soft in my old age. But this team showed its flaws tonight. This was a squad that needed a soft early schedule and needed some cream puffs as they grew their hair on their chest. But right now I had Zev Lumelski/J Ina, Matt Pipho flashbacks (that's for your 5XNC). I really thought we do more things to scheme around Nelson and Campbell.

Where have you gone Ricky Perry?

Enos has a vast playbook, but right now, he has to pare things down, and really focus on what we do well (2 TE sets) and build off that as the Oline jells. Coach Barry is really on the spot to have this unit upfront growing up, and quickly. Till this happens, what happened tonight will be the norm.

What's really frustrating is that there were points in that game, when UM was ahead, that if they could ever get ahead by 2 scores, I believed we could really start to choke out UF and put the pressure on them. But every time we were in those positions, there would be a fake punt, muffed punt, etc. That's where this game will gnaw at him.

But again, Rome was not built in a day. And I look back at some of the early games that I went to of Butch Davis (the opener at UCLA in 95), Randy Shannon (07, his second game where the Sooners destroyed us), and tonight, well, Manny Diaz will replay this over in his mind a million times, but I also saw some good things

Defense will continue to get better, in my view, especially when if/when our offense can really create leads

We came so close, but we are yet so far.

This was never going to be a national title contender ,but I still expect nothing less than 10 wins with this season. Yeah, Im taking a big picture approach to this

- OK, I was actually able to get seats on the 50 yard line, first row, and I have to say, seeing some of our freshman up close, they are really big, strong, physical looking guys. They look the part, I wanna see how these guys develop as football players

- Once again, had a great time in Orlando, always great to be around Miami fans. Let's keep our heads up, it'll get better

Hopefully
Well thought out post. I couldn't agree more. I think we can roll the Coastal and get better every week. The young tackles will be exponentially better by the end of the year. Imagine being a freshman tackle and asked that your first game is a nationally televised (only game on tv) against a major rival. Tough for a first game.

Not gonna lie.....but as of right now I'm not impressed with Enos.

I saw ONE **** shallow cross and it went for like 15 yards....and then....NOTHING. What makes it even worse is that's EXACTLY the type of route we should be running with an O-line this questionable in an attempt to get the ball out quick.

This is not going to be a full Enos support post...with that said...I think attempting to kill him for any reason after last night is misguided. Perhaps...MAYBE...you can go back to this game later in life and say it was a sign of things to come...but I am going to try avoiding that at the moment.

What I saw was a lot of pre-snap movement, wide variety of formations, and an offense that could be very efficient with lots of chain moving short throws to a variety of players.

Was it humming along for 60 minutes? Absolutely not. Anything beyond quick decision passes was dead on arrival. The offensive line last night made most of what seemingly wanted to do downfield absolutely impossible. Nothing Williams or Enos could do could scheme around the double turnstiles Miami had on the bookends. Nor could Williams avoid the rush when the outside collapsed in just one-on-one matchups with our tackles and our center got put on his ***.

The 60 minutes of game time felt like the first 20 minutes or so of the Clemson game two years ago. Any time Clemson REALLY wanted to do a thing...they could with relative ease and there was nothing we could do to stop it. Only Clemson deciding to go easy on us stopped what could have been a legitimate blood bath. Now, Florida is no Clemson, but the same held true with Florida's defense last night. When they really needed a stop...it was easy. They just sent an extra man, put pressure on the edge, and it was a wrap. This was never more apparent than the last 10 minutes or so of the game. Miami needed multiple penalty bailouts just to keep us a punchers chance.

tl;dr - not going to kill Enos yet. There was some things to like. Execution was made impossible by the OL.

Bottom line, he was at the very least partly responsible for the choice of going with the 2 freshman tackles, as opposed to putting Scaife and maybe even Donaldson out there. We (myself included) gave them the benefit of the doubt on that decision that turned out to be a HISTORICALLY bad decision.

If we don't see them formally announce Scaife back at tackle this week, it's time to start questioning.

To be fair, I don't think our staff had much of a choice on tackle selection. I think it is pretty clear we have no one able to man these positions. Maybe you could move Scaife or someone else out to left tackle...but who is to say that Cleveland Reed, too, isn't kind of bummy and a potential liability?

So, we are at a crossroads...do you try and adjust this OL and make something look at least average? Maybe, but I fear its not that easy and we simply dont have the pieces to make it work. OR...do you just accept that what you have is young and potentially good and those players and the line as a unit needs snaps together that will prove fruitful by seasons end...next year...and even two years from now. The most important THING for an offensive line is to get collective snaps and games played together...it doesnt matter what your talent level is...playing together is the most important things for long term success on the line...so, do you do that or try and fix it on the fly?

One area I will absolutely fault Enos for...its the same thing I've killed our last idk...all offensive coordinators for since 2000...failure to run the football in volume. This game by the second half should have a healthy dose of DeeJay Dallas and Cam'Ron Harris. This game was a job for a HAMMER and Enos showed up with a scalpel.

Again...I disagree with alot of what you're saying. I've been around too long, seen too much bad coaching, and suffered too much to exonerate horrible coaching decisions.

That was a BAD Gator team we lost to yesterday. That's going to be one of those that when we look back at years end, we're going to say "how the **** did we lose to them".

JMO, but I think Diaz/Enos going with Williams at QB, and Zion and Campbell at tackles, that was a clear declaration that they are thinking bout the future. That they understood there would be growing pains and trial by fire. I think that stick with those bookends till at least the end of September, hoping they can improve steadily going into the thick of ACC play

I really believe Florida has the best defensive front UM will play in the regular season

Don't make me quote Herm Edwards here....this isn't professional sports where tanking helps. Sorry, but I can't get onboard with that logic especially in a game with such ramifications on recruiting.

Bottom line, they got the QB decision correct and screwed the pooch on the O Line decisions. Let's see how they adjust from here.
