ARTICLE: Ten takeaways....all good points

A couple of things that stuck out to me.

Diaz shared on Monday morning that the defensive leadership is in a better spot compared to last year, which is somewhat surprising when considering that the Hurricanes must replace veteran leader Shaquille Quarterman.

This defense is gonna be dominant.

Restrepo, in particular, was putting in a noticeable amount of extra work compared to the other young players on the UM roster.

There's no way this kid doesn't play right away. He just has that dog mentality.

Coming into the spring, it was fair to wonder if D’Eriq King would have similar struggles because he is a quarterback that is smaller in stature as well.

After one practice, it doesn’t seem like those limitations are there with King.

King showed the ability to make all the throws and was especially accurate working the short and intermediate game. On deep balls, King throws with a nice trajectory.

After the practice, King made sure to put in some extra time with skill work by throwing into a net, working on his accuracy with throwing on the run and fading away from a pass rusher.

King can manipulate a football at a level that is impressive. Now it is up for him to get on the same page with the receivers and operate the offense at a high level.

The Hurricanes had a solid number of offensive players doing extra skill work after practice on Monday.

Quarterbacks D’Eriq King, N’Kosi Perry, and Tate Martell were all working on throwing into a net off various platforms and to receivers on air.

Wide receivers Dee Wiggins, Mark Pope, and Xavier Restrepo were all working the jugs machine after practice.

Restrepo, in particular, was putting in a noticeable amount of extra work compared to the other young players on the UM roster.

If transfer quarterback D’Eriq King can help set this type of work ethic for the UM offense in 2020, his addition is going to be big beyond this year.

Was not pleased with hiring Diaz. Flat failed last year. That being said he is the coach regardless of what I thought. Just glad to see him admitting mistakes and trying to correct them. In our best interest he does succeed. If not looking at several more years of frustration with new coach starting over when he is replaced.

Big truss King with Perry as back up is going to be nice.

Waiting for a bunch of losers to chime in *****ing about the guys that didn't stay after practice like they're not going to school or something.

Go to guy? Bold claims man, we will see

It’s really not that bold of a claim. Renfrow was Clemson’s go to guy. Same situation in a couple of years with him here. I’m not suggesting he’s gonna be a thousand yard guy or anything.

You can always count on reports to spew the same similar messages every Spring. Something along the lines of:

"One thing is for sure, things are noticeably different this year than they were last year" or "There's a different energy around this staff"

Same ol caca.

Great reports out of the 1st day of Spring Ball. 14 more of these great practices to go plus the 1st Spring game. Looking forward to many more reports of how well King is looking, the intensity and speed of the practices, and hearing how much the players are buying in & committed to the new offense.
