Army All American Game- Practice Updates

Its about time we get LB's to compete for jobs around here. That alone will make this LB core loads better than what we have seen in the last 10 years. We have had virtually no depth across the LB core and D-Line.

Cant wait to get these kids in!!!

I can see Shaq starting from day 1...

I've been feeling like this as well, but there's a long way to go. He would have experience in Grace and Owens on either side of him. Being an EE certainly helps too.

But I want JY to take this opportunity and run with it man. Kid has loads of potential.

Shaq has more potential than Owens IMO, but having both play at a high level would be huge. LB depth could possibly go from a huge concern to strength with Shaq, McCloud, and Pinkney.

Different positions and different responsibilities. All and all, Darrion is my favorite linebacker prospect on the team.

He was a HUGE loss when he got injured.
Darrion is a beast... I have seen him do things.. that make u say did that just happen...sitting out this year has him hungry or better yet blood thirsty

His whole package is freaky and because of the experience playing in the secondary, he's extremely comfortable playing in space which makes him an Alien amongst LBs.

--Forgot to add, five-star Jamel Cook has five-star characteristics too. Absolutely love him out here. He flies around at safety. He can cover. Has a frame to add serious weight. I wouldn't be surprised if he's an All-American safety or All-American LB. The first time I saw him running around awhile back he was a **** good TE.

Cook is a NEED in this class. Big time prospect and we have very little depth and talent in our Defensive Backfield

Cook is the type of kid who can't keep going to FSU from Central if we want to become relevant again

All 3 fit well and I think JY can be the best if he mentally locks down

I honestly have to say advantage to JY... But what has worked out to be a good thing for Shaq is he is a quick study... Will be running the same D he ran 4 years in HS (we mimicked MS) ... Coach knows no one will learn everybody at the same time... The New LBs will be Diaz's his boys that came in with him... Its going to be interesting... If nothing else I sure Shaq will push J.Y.

I think both will play at the same time a lot and I hope Shaq gets used as a blitzer a ton

How is he recovering from injury? I hope he is able to regain his speed. He is now listed at 6'3 247... that is huge for a college LB.

I'm excited about about our LBs this season, should be the best group in a while in terms of talent, experience, speed and depth. We only lose Kirby and McCord from last season and Kirby was injury most of the season and we get Owens back along with 3 the hard way.

Starters:
SR Jermaine Grace 6'1" 221 lbs (4.47)
JR Juwon Young 6'2" 245 lbs (4.62)
RSO Darrion Owens 6'3" 247 lbs (4.69)

Depth:
SO Charles Perry 6-1 220 (4.63)
RSO Marques Gayot 6-1 222 (4.79)
RFR Jamie Gordinier 6-4 236
RSO Terry McCray 6-3 228
RSO Mike Smith 6-1 224
SO James King 6-1 205

Incoming:
Shaquille Quarterman 6-1 235 (4.69)
Zach McCloud 6-2 220 (4.62)
Michael Pinckney 6-0 215 (4.60)

I bet Jermaine is the only one with less body fat. Darrion is built like Adonis... He may have gotten out of shape now since he has been injured... but before his injury he was probably less than 10 percent body fat

Depth imo

SLB Owens McCloud Gardiner
MLB Young Shaq
WLB Grace Perry Pinkney

Smith goes to DE
Gayot neck problems not good

McCray and King could be gone imo

2. LB Shaquille Quarterman, Orange Park (Fla.) Oakleaf

Shaquille Quarterman
Recruiting wrap: Quarterman is committed to Miami.

Performance: The most active player on the East defense on day two was Quarterman. He isn’t the biggest linebacker but he is by no means small and is very fast. Quarterman was quick to diagnose plays and flowed to the ball very well. Don’t be surprised if he ends up with the most tackles in the game on Saturday.

Someone posted it here (and it was subsequently deleted), but his neck injury is fairly serious. I don't think the kid plays again.

Then why would he still be on the team? If it were that serious he would have quit football a couple weeks after it happened. He would have announced the he would never be able to play again. He's obviously at least planning on playing again.
