Areas of improvement (Offense)

1. Our first half running game, ESPECIALLY in the 2nd quarter. Here are some stats:
-We average 4.7 YPC in the first half, and 6.54 in the second half.
-YPC by quarter was 5.31 (1st), 4.09 (2nd), 6.45 (3rd), and 6.62 (4th). Keep in mind, as far as sample size, that our rushing attempts by quarter are fairly even (104 attempts in the 1st, 101 in the 2nd, 107 in the 3rd, and 121 attempts in the 4th).
-We have 2 rushing TDs in the 2nd quarter, 5 in the 1st, and 11/12 in the 3rd and 4th quarter.

Crazy Rushing Stat:
We basically ran for a full years worth of yardage in just the 2nd half of games in 2024.

2024 (2nd Half Only) - 1,491 yds
2022 (1st + 2nd Half) - 1,540 yds
2021 (1st + 2nd Half) - 1,532 yds
2019 (1st + 2nd Half) - 1,535 yds

This. I think if you showed Mario these numbers he'd be like that South Park meme of Randy in the room just completely encompassed in ****. This is his wet dream. Just grounding people to dust and owning their soul by the 4th quarter.
Not sure about Randy but Mario busted his wad too early and wound up with a real mess on his hands for the final 3 games

But, but, but Dawson is an air raid OC.

We don’t get outside much because we don’t want negative runs. We were the best Power 4 team at avoiding tackles for loss.

If your OL and backs are physical enough to still generate yardage (Top 5 in YPC last year), this more conservative style helps you dominate down and distance. It’s a big reason we were #1 in third-down conversion percentage by a mile.

3rd down conversion % sounds **** but I want to be explosive. It's Miami after all, our goals shouldn't be to extend drives, and conservatively bleed clock.

Why not use elite linemen to run a full array of runs that stress defenses horizontally as well, with fast explosive running backs? If you need to get conservative at any point in the game you can, but don't see why phone booth ball needs to be our identity 100% of the time.

He is... you're just associating Leach Air Raid as the only type of air raid out there or something. Air Raid has morphed into a lot of different looks while keeping the same core principles.
Air raid is a misnomer. It’s basic principle is based on the run game with passing concepts that take advantage what the run game opens up.

The core principle is simplicity. Master a few concepts instead of a ton of concepts poorly. (Mesh, Y Cross etc) Also terminology and tagging system invented by Mumme/Leach among other details.

Originally it was all built around the pass game. (No misnomer) The run game in most Air Raid teams were extremely simple, mostly inside zone to be able to move fast with tempo since the pass scheme mirrored the run scheme for o linemen. A lot of coaches have used the core air raid principles but added more power or complex running systems to it. Lincoln Riley comes to mind and... Dawson.

Air raid is a misnomer to many who equate “air” with passing and almost no run game involved when that’s just not the case.

"...it felt like our running game wasted a bunch of plays with very vanilla and seemingly pointless run designs that resulted in our RB's running into the tiniest of running lanes. The lanes would eventually get bigger as the game went on and we wore the other team down, but why are we not able to simply have better play designs that allow our RB's to go untouched?..."
Corrrect me if I'm wrong, but this is a feature of TUFF N FYZICAL not bug.

As maddening as it is, Dawson schemes these battering ram plays to beat the D into submission for planned gains in 4Q.

and yes, this play calling philosophy does leave our Hurricanes vulenerable to getting outscored and in a hole they hve to dig out of in 3Q/4Q.

On a football field what the practical difference in “runs that stress defenses horizontally” and bubbles, swings, or quick screens? Dawson’s offense has a lot of horizontal components.
