Are we worried about Donaldson?

This staff doesn’t develop talent well (physically or technique).

Donaldson would’ve been better off somewhere else. I’m convinced guys get worse in this program. Then we blame the kid (just like we did undercover, Shannon, golden).

And people think it has to do with technique.

Art Kehoe was the OL coach for those elite early 00's teams (built by Butch and Moffit). And he was the OL coach for all the **** ones post-Butch era.

Did he forget technique, or did our S&C program slowly fade? I think most know..
 
Scaife spent the whole spring at LG. Was the backup LT in week 1, and is now the backup RT. Searels is an *******.

Only change to the starting lineup might be Boulware at LG but I have a hunch Searels will stick with Jones and Mahoney at guard all season.

agree, we do not look like an elite team , very noticeable against the LSU team in season opener.
we need to " rediscover" the secret sauce. top teams look different lineman are 320 lean, not 320 with a belly
whatever happened to Moffit?

I know I know, "can't put a rookie at LT", "gotta protect the QB's blindside" and enter whatever other cliche you want here but the fact of the matter is all those things apply to a traditional QB. Rosier is far from a traditional QB. He really doesn't need stellar blindside protection because he runs so **** much and on top of that....it's not like St. Louis hasn't been susceptible to speed off the edge in his own right.

The reason I'd try the kid at left tackle first is because it gives us the POSSIBILITY of fixing three OL positions with the one move. St. Louis would get to go back to where he's played his best, and really belongs, which is RIGHT tackle. Meanwhile Donaldson gets to go back to where his skill set is the bet match......GUARD.

So in my scenario, you're only hoping 1 move pans out cause you feel good the other 2 will naturally work out. Give the kid a look at LT.

I posted something similar in the offseason. I thought St. Louis would struggle at LT, and after watching the better/more athletic DT's get past ND untouched many times last year at G (not easy to do in the small space between the C and T), the thought of him in space at RT scared the **** out of me.

I felt it would be better to put the "best available" at LT and leave everyone else where they were. It's not ideal obviously, but I'd rather have the other 4 positions on the line solidified and keep someone in to help our LT every play if need be. Again, not ideal, but we have enough skill position talent to get away with one less eligible in the route.

Scaife has gotten himself ready to play. Although slightly undersized at tackle, he is a talent who upgrades our physicality and toughness immediately. Donaldson was a freshman AA at guard and is dominant at times as a run blocker. My dream line would be:

LT- St. Louis
LG- Donaldson
C- Gauthier
RG- Gaynor
RT- Scaife

More realistically, we could be looking at a combo of Mahoney/Boulware at the other guard spot.

Early games have told us no. Richt and Searles are too stubborn

Don’t get the obsession with less talented “veteran” players smh
 
I think biggest problem with OL they are often not on the same page and as a result they all look.like turnstiles. Just putting your body in front of a rusher will.at least slow him down. This is on the coaching to have them playing as a cohesive unit. At times, at least to me, it looks like they are confused on their assignment

Yeah...and the way I look at it if you can consolidate 3 problems into just one (Left tackle in this scenario) then you can scheme with a chipping TE or keeping a back into block on the LT side to mitigate some of the pass rush. Just knowing we're good at RT and at guard would make life easier by only leaving ONE question mark, instead of THREE.

"A few notes from offensive line coach Stacey Searels: He said Venzell Boulware is pushing Jahair Jones for the starting left guard job. Boulware played 39 snaps against Toledo while Jones played 37. “We are going to play the best player,” Searels said…

Freshman DJ Scaife got 11 snaps at tackle against Toledo and “played really well. He played well the game before. He can play both left and right tackle. We’re trying to work him in more and more.”…"

I understand the staff is not going to adjust at the speed we (as "uneducated fans") throw sh*t at the wall, but use the search feature on this message board or listen to the first podcast of Fall practice and this exact topic has been discussed in insane detail.

Frustrating. Can anyone argue that we're NOT seemingly married to incrementalism?

Everything I’ve heard is he insist on playing tackle and that was one of the conditions of him coming to Miami. I think he may be coming to the realization though that he’s a guard.

In regards to this season we really don’t have a right tackle so he’s better than the next man you’d stick out there.

yes LSU looks like his handy work Oregron & Moffit both were here under Butch
I would imagine if Butch were here, he would have tried to hire the guy.

Possibly, but you can work around that. Sit him and tell him he got beat out based on play (not an exaggeration if Scaife keeps improving). "You're still a tackle as promised, but you gotta earn a starting position around here. Now if you want to compete at Guard I think there's a good chance you can earn that starting spot quickly."
 
If Donaldson was promised T work that just sucks. We shouldn’t do that to kids nor the program. I think even now he has to recognize that he’s not fit for LT/RT work - his best play for the next level is G. Scaife ran circles around him last game, he should know by now the writing is on the wall. ***** upperclassmen and the perspensity to play them. Most are Golden projects at best, we should start whomever affords is the best opportunity to notch a W at their position; regardless of seniority.
