Are we not going to talk about the Defense?

Another terrible stunt on a critical fourth down.

In other news, Scott Patchan may be the worst player ever to have played a sport.

We didn't know until late in the fall camp that two freshman will be starting at both tackles, buddy. We didn't know until the UF game that the consequences would be that disastrous. Nobody on this site thought we would have 10 sacks and a complete inability for Williams to go through his progressions (as slow as that may have been at the time). With the exception of Zuniga, some were citing the lack of returning talent of UFs defensive line. Some were even expecting a blowout.

IMO, it's these overblown expectations that's led to the backlash that many are currently venting.

You miss the point. The degree to which the offensive line played is irrelevant and belies the fact that the defense has regressed more than the offense has over the last 9 months. Expecting players with multiple years of training in that defense to execute with some competence is not "overblown".

Yes the D has regressed......

Because we lost 5 NFL quality players on D + Nesta Silvera

Any team that has Freshmen and Sophomores on 2nd team would take a drop off as well...

No I don't miss the point. The point was expectations for different position groups on the team. The degree of regression of the offensive line compared to the defense line was entirely the point.

We all expected the offensive line to regress. I didn't expected to regress to the extent it did. I didn't expect two freshman starting tackle until it was announce a week before the UF game. I didn't expect them to be left on an island with no adjustments to help them. The end result was a nightmare.

I've been consistent since the spring camp that people were under estimating the impact of losing Willis. I expected the defensive line play to regress. Everyone said we have Nesta and experienced ends - no worries. Then we lose him and have no 3 tech tackle. That changed the entire character of the line. As a result , they were asked to play differently going against two QBs that can run. While most don't like the style of play, they performed competently, they have not regressed as the OL did. They have not cost us any games. We have to look else where for that. Expecting them to pick up where they left off without the inside push from a tackle was overblown.

nah, we have 6/11 returning starters and more depth.

It's cool, man. You can have your opinion. We just see different things.

Yeah more depth-- but YOUNGER players which = less experience, smaller/weaker than Juniors/Seniors on the UF, UNC, CMU side of the ball.

This is why they are getting worked....

With each game-- i predict this young team will be getting better this season.

We shall see...

He’s not a starting quality player. He should be a rotational 4th dend or so
