Are we not going to talk about the Defense?

We went from a Top 3 Defense in 2018 to a sh*tty low-ranking squad this year....

It's NOT about Blake-- because Manny created that Top 3 team last year-- there's no way in **** he isn't involved in looking over the D this year...

What we are experiencing is the drop-off from the loss of these guys:-- these guys were all wreckers on the D....

Now we feel the difference without them and a squad of very green Backfield and D-line...

The LB's can't be blamed because they are now trying to protect both the line and also the middle zone-- which puts them into a "wait and see" mode rather than being able to attack the QB and RB.

Everyone has been rightly focusing on the offense but no one is talking about the defense.

Our starting DL cannot generate pressure to save their lives. I'm confident when I say Patchan, Ford, and Bethel should be seeing the LEAST amount of playing time out of anyone on the DL and yet they're seeing the most. As far as Garvin, blame it on scheme if you'd like but when he's finally allowed to pin his ears back and get after the QB against the mighty likes of Bethune and CMU he is unable to generate any sort of a pass rush. Through 4 games this season Rosseou has 1 more sack than our entire starting DL put together. And Hill in much fewer snaps has already matched Garvin and Patchan's sack total.

The secondary looks a disaster. Ranking 80th in pass defense against FBS opponents and it should be much worse considering the amount of passes dropped by CMU. Our CBs have proven to be hugely overrated and yet Blake continues to play man coverage more than at any point than when Diaz was DC. Trajan is hit or miss as a boundary CB and Ivey and Blades can't decide who sucks least and so we see them alternating the second CB position.

And lastly, Blake Baker is completely out of his depth here. The staple of a Blake Baker defense so far has been playing cover 1 on first and second down, 3 down lineman with 3 safeties on third and fourth down while still allowing the offense to convert, infatuation with dropping Garvin to defend the flats and rushing 3, rarely blitzing, when blitzing sending a terrible blitz, and not understanding who his best defensive lineman are. If the defense continues as is as we enter ACC play I'm confident we will get smoked to a degree unseen since the Fat Al days.

The defensive line coach needs to be fired. If the BOT gives Manny another year (which they shouldn’t), they should force him to fire Enos, the special teams coach, the defensive line coach and possibly the offensive line coach.

I said it a couple of nights ago. Bring Kul back during the Bye Week. Fire or demote Stroud and bring back the architect of the DL.

And people on here really thought the defense wouldn’t take a step back with Manny to Baker and losing the best safety we’ve had in over a decade. Gotcha.

If you are ok with our secondary looking this bad with Florida (Franks sucks), UNC (True Freshman) and CMU, then idk what to tell you. A step back is one thing, this scheme has put us in a worse position to be successful.

Not only that imo, decline of playcalling on defense is very noticeable as well switching form Diaz to baker.Tendencies are different as well.

Where did I even remotely hint that I am ok? I tried to tell all of you all summer that Blake Baker is not as good of a coordinator as Manny is, and that losing Quan Johnson was going to hurt very badly, especially early in the year. Nobody wanted to hear it. But even with that being said, if you just have an offense that puts up 30 a week, you’re 4-0 and everyone is saying how great Manny is and there’s Manolo memes and we’re giving him the keys to the city etc etc. Just 30 a night. But the offense has been horrendous, the defense has been worse than last year, and here we are.

Losing 5 NFL quality defensive players is going to have a MAJOR negative impact....

And obviously we didn't have the deep bench on D to make up that difference this year.

like how we have one of the top run defenses in the country?

I haven’t seen our defense play this bad since Golden what the **** was manny thinks bringing Baker and Enos here. We need to tighten up or this season will go off the rails fast .
Do you not remember how teams ran all over Goldens defense? Thats not happening so idk what you are smoking but pass that dutch

It starts in practice. The kids last season practiced a more aggressive up-field style each snap, and that builds a certain mentality.

I WAS ABOUT TO LIGHT GARVIN *** UP LAST GAME BUT I WATCHED HIM THEY'RE BLOCKING HIM WITH THE GUARD AND CHIPPING WITH THE BACK ON A LOT OF PLAYS. THEY KNOW HE'S ALL WE GOT SO AT ALL COST THEY'RE NOT LETTING HIM BEAT THEIR TACKLES.

HE'S BEING TRIPLE BLOCKED ON MANY PLAYS .
If he's being doubled and triple-teamed we should have some other guys feasting....but we don't. Maybe things will change when Nesta cones back. We need inside pressure.

Are you going to completely dismiss guys from central Michigan running wide open on our defense? If we were playing any other ACC opponent they wouldn’t have dropped all of those passes and the score would have looked a lot different. Blake baker is not good imo and does not have same philosophy or approach that manny had. No methods to his madness other playing conservative as **** and not applying enough pressure when you have a young db group which they surely need.

don’t get me started on the 4th down conversions this year either

Lol have you watched our ACC opponents?

They might be worst than CMU hahahahaha.
