Are Our WR’s Severely Overrated?

I know that our tackles were *** and for the most part our WR didn’t have time to create separation for JW to get the ball to them but in defense of the Oline, and believe me it’s hard to defend them, there were multiple times that they gave Williams time to throw the ball and he stood back there for 4-5-6 seconds holding the ball only to end up being sacked.

No line can be expected to hold even decent pass rushers out for that long so either the WR couldn’t get open or JW didn’t see them and just ate the ball instead of hitting a guy on a horse on the sidelines..

Yup , on the deep post on the 2nd to last drive Harley has his man beat and was coming open for a TD , you can see Jarren throw his arms up after he got bum rushed and sacked because he saw it, he just didn’t have enough time

I know this was his first start, but his has to let the ball go quicker. He has to anticipate his receivers coming open, throw them open. As a qb if you know the rush is coming but your guy is gonna come open deep you let it go earlier and maybe put a little air under it. His clock has to get better because I was yelling all game "let it go". It was there all night even with the pass rush. on a side not Enos has to chill with PA or chip the edges.

I didn’t really have a problem with Tate out there.

Hightower and Wiggins aren’t slot receivers.

They’re outside guys, and Hendo and Wilson are pretty good in coverage.

Tate is also a threat to pass, so it gives the defense something to think about, which we needed considering the way they were pinning their ears back.

It’s a wasted body on the field in a play where we are actually passing.

Maybe I’m missing something with Pope, but I just don’t see it. Really small WR that has slightly above average athleticism.

Its not just about pope. Why not use hightower more? Dude is 6'3 210 and at least give him a chance to use his size vs uf corners.
Definitely found it weird that he wasn't on the field more. But that's what people have been arguing in here about.

Is this the play pope possibly got hurt? Didn’t see him much after this at all

Let's not rip the wr's just because the o-line sucks ***

The o-line most certainly affects this; however you can’t ignore the fact that our WR’s did not create separation AND Tate, who was just converted to WR a week ago, saw the field a lot more than our other more-highly touted WR’s. Hope it’s not a sign that they’re still struggling with drops and not knowing the playbook.

Did you see how the OL picked up 1/1,567 Grantham's blitz.

Elite. So Elite.

JT is OVERRATED. Significantly.

It isnt his physical talent, but his well known mental weakness.

Charmin soft, with a double dose of immaturity.

It's as clear as day.

He makes highlights plays here and there but disappears , or just checks out at times. Focus is an issue.

His hands are suspect , being great is making every random catch , then making the clutch , special plays in big moments.

He’s an elite athlete but far from a polished wr, hands in particular.

We overrate nearly every kid we have.

Exactly. That's why there is zero sensibility in following the offseason around here. I don't need to hear that every kid is extra special.

Just tune in the opening game with no backdrop or false expectation -- as I did -- and everything makes sense. I don't join all the negativity when an underdog loses a football game.

There was no situational awareness from the coaching staff regarding the wide receiver position, given our offensive line and quarterback realities. That's the aspect that annoyed me. Short passes are not foundation. They waltz against weaklings. Top opponents salivate to obliterate those plays as the game extends. I have made that point for decades. Once we opened the game with reliance on short passes and with no big receivers in the rotation I knew we were in big trouble once the game got into the later stages. Those short plays will be wiped out by Florida. Our left tackle is a comedy act. Williams hesitates to pull the trigger. Combine those elements and you desperately need a big guy downfield who can bail you out. For years we've had tall receivers who aren't particularly special but they can bail you out. Somehow we brainstormed to eliminate that from our ****nal. Consequently we've got Williams running around waiting for a bunch of little buys to get noticeably open, instead of tossing it up there for your tall guy to make a play.

Manny Diaz got stuck on Greentree. He's always talking about Greentree. Apparently he has no situational awareness that these games will not unfold like Greentree against elite opponents.

The Tate thing ****ed me off for sure. Someone said Pope was hurt and that's why he was in but not sure if that's true. I just think it's too early to say they're overrated.... although Jeff single handedly lost the game (not exaggerating). I don't think Enos did them a ton of favors either as he didn't have time/seem to want to throw deep with Jarren.

We aren't.

OL being DIII level (and I'm being kind) has nothing to do with fact JT, and a few other WRs are overrated.

That definitely irked me...not one deep shot or exotic route running in the 2H. Very conservative and bland.
