App State treating this like the Super Bowl

They run a 3-4 but they try to get upfield with their front 7. Not the same thing.

There's just no way their DBs can contain Coley, Richards, Njoku, and Herndon. If Kaaya is accurate they have no chance.

We came out shooting vs FAU, Kaaya struggled, then we went to the screens to settle him in. We'll probably go to that early this week, force their DBs to tackle, offset their DL getting upfield, spread them out then start running down their throats and throwing deep for the dagger.

If we go to those screens early and hurry up without letting them sub, we'll have our way with them.

Can't believe we're playing at App State. smh

I heard the reason was a few years back a big school dropped wanting to play a home and home so we where stuck scrambling and a home and home came up with them. It was just one of those things. Im cool with throwing a bone to schools like this as long as the boys show up to play and we walk out stomping a mud hole in them.
This is a fact. When someone cancels on you with short notice (and yes a couple of years is short notice in scheduling) you are stuck with few options.

Personally, I think it's awesome that Miami, once one of the little guys, is making this trip. I think we are getting more positive pub than negative. Any place any time shouldn't have restrictions. If they were already a power 5 conference team, no one would have a big issue. They certainly play like one.

That ain't the reason. If I'm not mistaken we got to go to arkansas state too I think next year.

We do travel there next year. I heard them saying it on Joe Rose this am on why we where going there.
I'm okay with it. Giving a small school the chance to have a huge event around us.

Our fans do the same **** when we play FSU. Just check the threads I guarantee someone mentions FSU in every thread.

Are they paying us to come there? LOL

....it is the super bowl for them

It's really the Super Bowl for the area (other than the real Super Bowl last season). I'm not sure how many of you have ever lived in a rural area but to have Miami come up the mountain to play at App State, who is only three seasons removed from playing FCS, is a big deal. You are exchanging Presbyterian for Marshall, Montana for Miami and Wake Forest comes to Boone next season. A 4 game series is being worked out with East Carolina, a peer in-state school which App competes with for recruits and $$$$.

There is a lot of excitement around the game not only due to the opponent, but the moment Miami arrives in Boone, will in a lot of fans eyes validate the decision to move to FBS in the first place. It's also the first time ESPN will air a home Sun Belt game on a Saturday. App was the first ever Sun Belt team to win 11 games in a season yadda yadda.

You get the point. There are also still a lot of seasonal Floridians that are up in the mountains at this point, Don Shula likely being one of them as he owns an estate not incredibly far from Boone.

I thought it was we didn't want to write the big check required to hire a wupping boy for home game, plus under Al's magnetic draw. we got more money playing home and home than we did keeping our own gate -- you think that would have been enough to fir him.

Their defense is that same **** Golden ran here. We should pick it apart. Lean on them with the run game and let Kaaya settle in early. Should be able to work the middle of the field.

You'll likely see a lot of zone blitzing. The goal won't be to contain the receivers but dominate the line and force Kaaya to either delay the throw or force him into some early decisions. Whether this will work or not is anyone's guess. The defensive line got into the UT backfield all game long due to the fact that the back-ups who are relied on to rush the passer are every bit as capable as those who start.

You won't need to force App to sub. #28 is an OLB who is listed at 5-11 195 so he is more like an inside the box safety. Depending on the formation, he will either play on the line or he will spread out wide to cover the void in the field. I think that this is done in an effort to avoid issues presented by being unable to substitute players against hurry up offenses but I can't be sure.

The game will be about coaching more so than pure athletic ability of individuals.

So give that monster FB the ball over and over and over again right?

Exactly. Keep it high % early to test their depth & fundamentals. Even with lackluster OL play []_[] should be able to line up against these dudes and win battles. Can't wait. BTW love the trash talk from App. St.; they have every reason to be confient at home. We were pretty low energy offensively on Saturday, but hopefully we can bring more juice this week and and show some mental toughness..

We're seriously lacking an offensive identity and leadership on the field.

I've actually been called out on other boards now for coming here to try to correct some misconceptions, such as "FAU played App State tough in Boone last season" and "App State won their conference last year" because neither of those are correct.

Regardless, the two star defensive ends and nose tackle dominated UT's 4 star offensive line. I expect a lot of this was due to where the fourth man was coming from and the fact that UT never picked it up pre-snap. If I had to choose a defense similar to App's in term of scheme, I'd say Arizona Cardinals. A 3-4 with an active front and constant pressure.

I believe all App fan's a little leery of the offensive outside of Marcus Cox and the #3 ranked offensive line (according to PFF).

Looking at future schedules, I see that Miami plays FIU(away,2019) the location has not been determined yet. Has anyone heard where this game may be played?
