Anyone hear anything on this?

You would think with the connections Richt has he would be able to get his son a job at a G5 school.

It would have to be at a school that hasn’t watched a single Miami game in the last 3 years. I know the good ole boy system is alive and well but I tell employees all the time that I won’t give them a letter of recommendation. I’m not attaching my name to a ****** to untalented worker.

I mean really? He has kids to and he’s making 6 figures. Football is a relentless sport and you make your money while you can.

He should be fired but I wouldn’t quit either

I have kids too but I get evaluated at my job. I would have been put on an improvement plan of some sort after year one with Jon’s results but daddy won’t do that. That’s why I wouldn’t hire family or friends. It’s hard to mix business and friendships.

Valid point, but I think we are coming close to rock bottom. I also think it’s fair to argue that UM has never been this invested in the football program from a monetary standpoint...perhaps the BOT finally saw how much money there is to be made in college football and decided to pony up the money for Richt and the IPF. The returns thus far have been so-so (he got us to the orange bowl last year). After this dibacle of a season coupled with the expected downturn in season tickets and booster money, I would argue that UM is finally starting to move in the right direction.

If Richt hadn’t gotten that bs extension, he would have already hired an OC. Because of the extension, he has at least one more year to make it right or get fired.

That’s why I’m inclined to believe the twitter rumor of a blow up argument between blake and richt. Blake has to know his goose is cooked if richt fails, plain and simple. Further, he has little to no leverage to force richt. People on this board have referenced pressuring him to make changes, but ultimately the only thing he can really do is threaten to fire him. Richt might appear to have early onset alzheimers but he still has to know he holds all the cards. So now you have an already weak AD trying to force change from a position with zero leverage, and a proud coach who is finally realizing how out of co trol things have gotten and probably has the weight of the world on his shoulders (aka, he now knows he needs help and the knly thing to do would be to let go of his son and/or close friends like brown, dugans, searels, etc). He always oreaches loyalty, so he would essentially be breaking his own code. This is the number one reason why he never has and never will be a champion, because he values relationships over the bottom line, which is winning.

As far as richt and james go, I absolutely believe that things are bad between them, because james knows the future of his job 100% lies in the hands of richt. If no changes are made, they are both fired during or after 2019. If he makes a change, it probably still is too late but at least there would be a small chance it stabalizes things enough to stick around 2-3 more years and eventually help save blakes job.

Personally I think after the dust settles, richt makes the tough decision and brings in someone safe and that he is familiar with. I think it helps our offense move into an average state (certainly cant get worse), but I also expect our defense to regress. As a reault I see another 7-5 season with richt either stepping down or getting fired and exiting UM along with james.

Well put together and exactly what I believe goes down as well in the end

It's possible they want to have a strategy for finding the next coach. They may have someone quietly asking who's interested and working on a succession plan. Just firing Richt now leaves a lot in limbo, especially with recruits.

A smart monkey doesn't let go of one branch before grabbing hold of another.

Not sure if serious?

You think the same decision makers that:

1. Allowed Golden to coach for 5 seasons,
2. Allowed him to keep his DC for all 5 seasons,
3. After firing Golden went after the next coach with no plan and but for UGA firing Richt, who knows who they hire,
4. Hired Richt, and
5. Extended Richt

Besides apathy and self-inflicted cancer, what strategy do you see?

The other problem I see is that MoRk knows that he has cooked any possibility of getting another job in football. He needs to max out this pay, so he will probably play hard ball and will try to get the most $$ out of UM on his way out.

Good point, its sad that the level of ineptitude with the athletic department/BOT “leadership” makes it very hard to picture this. I hope you’re right.

Truth,

CMR is never going to be a $3-$5 mill a year HC again. But, I can see him getting another gig in the $1-$2 mill range. After some needed time off.

Signed,

Peruche

When it is time to choose our next HC, whether it be tomorrow or next year, that hire has to be successful. It is a monumental decision, one which I do not trust Blake James with.

We need an AD who both loves Miami and is competent. Blake James is no where near competent at his job. I would rather hire a search committee of 5 undergrad business students to choose our next HC than let James lead the way.

If Richt is about to leave, it better not be before Blake James, as he is the bigger issue. A new AD is a MUCH more pressing issue than a new HC.

That's why I said it's possible. I was suggesting it as a possibility.

I would hope that given the positions that members of the BOT hold in their day jobs, they would be smarter than their past decisions would indicate.

Let me ask you something. These decision makers (some of them) have been BOT members for a LONG time. Some have been members since Coker.

Do you think they should be running athletics or micromanaging it?

Our decision makers have been nothing but consistent...

1. 4 straight unnecessary extensions,
2. 3 straight atrocious hires,
3. 3 straight buyouts (each too late) and we wait for number 4,
4. Our current AD ***s trannys, needed 5 years to graduate Minnesota State Mankato, and fell a$s backwards into the position, and
5. It has been ~15 years from our last truly relevant season.

Should we stick with their input? Perhaps it is time to bring in a competent and passionate AD with autonomy.

What recruits? We have a bunch of 3* that might now come? Or you waste all of next year putting out a crappy product and lose all recruits for next year too(like this year)

If you've ever dealt with board members from any organization, you'd know that the majority are there because it looks good for them. They get a nice plaque and it feeds their ego. Of the minority that pay attention, half care about money and the other half actually have a clue. The burden is on them to convince the others in the small amount of time they have together that some action is necessary. Most are averse to change because effort is required on their part and there's a possibility they'll make a bad decision. So change is an uphill battle.

They rely on the AD to take the heat and make the detail decisions. That's what needs to change.

Agreed, but there's not a lot of time to fire Richt, hire a new coach and persuade recruits to sign when there are other schools that will seem more stable making offers.

Sure sure. That wasn’t what the argument was. I’m saying none of us would walk away from a six figure job just because fans don’t think we are doing a good job
