Anyone else sad that the Paul Johnson era at GT is over?

Been trying to tell you guys since the minute he retired that it was the best thing that’s happened to GT football since Calvin Johnson.

There are a billion good athletes in Georgia....and a ton of them would love to play ball in Atlanta. Now, you do have to have a brain in your head to go there. They don’t take everyone. But if you can form a coherent sentence, you can get in, and now you can stay in state and play in a 21st century offense. They will be MUCH better going forward than they were under coffee cake face.

Definite bad day for everyone else in the ACC when he retired.

I wonder how many D-line careers he’s cut short with his despicable coaching style.

Maybe I missed it, but I can't think of one of ours that was cut short, or anyone else for that matter.

They were certainly a cut blocking machine. What they tried to do was completely legal, even if it wasn't always executed perfectly.

The thing about that offense was that it would get in the defenders head space. That was the beauty of it and it also frustrates defenders. The triple option isn't hard to defend, if you play assignment football. Combine fear (real or imagined) of injury and getting frustrated, that's how they would break some teams. That's what I found most interesting about their offense or even lack thereof.

Gone for good as someone said above. Aa someone else said, they are a sleeping giant should they get a real coach.

Well they were such a powerhouse before Paul...

1. Nobody said powerhouse, slugger

2. GT was 9-4 all-time vs Miami before CPJ was hired (including 3-0 in the 3 years before he was hired). They have a national championship 10 years more recently than UGA.

3. Go to bed
That (shared NC with Colorado)...UM would have Destroyed both teams put together in 1990....

We won because of talent, not because of scheme. However, the scheme threw off our planning because we had to add extra practices dedicated just to this stupid system.

Personally, this is why am glad he’s gone. You don’t have to change up your entire defensive philosophy for one game, and then go back to what you were doing before.

I always thought that was disruptive in a way. Yes we could beat them, but the defense would literally have to unlearn what they had been doing all season for a week, just to play Georgia Tech...and then of course go back to the normal way of doing things.

3. Go to bed

1. You sound scared of their historic 7-5 record
2. 6 of their 9 wins during that span happened before 1978. 2 of those 9 wins were Larry Coker’s last two forsaken years. The last of the 9 wins happened during our worst season in 40 years.
3. I’ll sleep without any fear of GT

They will at best recruit in a top 30-40 range. They won’t get recruits any of the surrounding sec schools or Top 3 acc schools prioritize in the state of Georgia(there’s like 5 power 5 universities within 3-3:30 hours of metro Atlanta.). Sleeping giant? I doubt It just because the limitations on getting the best talent in the state. Will always struggle to even get the 2nd- 3rd rate recruits in Georgia

Maybe they build something but they won’t be bringing in the best talent in Georgia or anything close to it.

personally I’d rather face a traditional offense with ga tech rather than Paul Johnson’s offense

We have struggled with them 4 of the last 5 games largely due to that terrible scheme.

2014 loss
2016 game was close(2 defensive touchdowns were the difference)
2017 squeaked out a win
2018 Loss

No more of that limited possession bullsh*t we had to deal with. It should be easier

I appreciated the intricacies of the triple option. That being said, who wants to install basically a new D for one week a year??

Hated that they got away with cut blocking downfield alot too.

I'll miss the almost guaranteed W on the schedule every year.

Prior to PJs arrival, the Jackets held a 9-4 advantage in the all time series vs our CANES.

PJ was 3-8 vs the CANES.

I will forever be thankful to PJ for allowing the CANES to even up the series at 12 wins a piece.

Good thing we got Willie at FSU now to pick up where PJ left off in handing us a guaranteed W every year.

Here's hoping Willie wins at least 8 games this year and earns an extension on his contract.

Nah he sucked. 3-8 against us is way too good. Hate that cut-blocking BS, too many injuries and way too much time spent preparing for that crap.

For a good to great Miami team, the triple option was an automatic "W'.

Not happy that Paul Johnson retired. Our record against him was terrific (9-3). However, I will not miss seeing his smug face on the sidelines.
