Like Popeye says, "I can stand so much, then I can't stand it anymore." Indulge me for a rant that many of you have to be feeling.
Oregon fans were hauntingly right. They told us we would find Mario a great recruiter but not a game-time coach—his teams were ready for big games but not for games they should dominate. On College Game Day this morning, they mentioned Mario has lost 6 games as double-digit favorites as Canes HC, and this was an upset alert game. He has also historically struggled after bye weeks over the past three years.
The Orange Bowl Boys said we’d go 5-0 then lose 4 games. I thought we’d start 2-3 because of the unknown factor of Beck’s arm. Beck hasn't been close on the long ball the second half of the season, and it took a couple of great catches to get that far. Georgia's medical staff may have been right to suggest they move on; it was a gamble at best for the Canes to court him with his arm, an unknown commodity. Was he better than we had? Yes, but don't expect any more top-tier QBs to come here, even if we won the sub-par state title.
People who don’t know OL play said we had an “Elite OL.” I played on elite OLs at a lesser-level college and in high school. We blocked for 6 different 1,000-yard backs, rushing records in both high school (37 years) and college. But one thing elite O-lines have at any level is they don’t take snap discipline penalties or holding penalties at key times in drives.
Stupid penalties on defense too—undisciplined team. Blown coverages.
Please don't tell me about penalties. Championship teams don't leave it to the refs as double-digit favorites
Rhett Laisley (hot commodity) was a double-digit underdog; please explain to me when I say that we are not operating under The Curse of the Orange Bowl. Lane Kiffin—we should have gotten him when he'd maybe consider coming here before everyone is after him.
