I see him at Miami. I don't think Bama will take him unless it's so other cant get him . I hope this kid opens his eyes up for it to late . This staff is relentless they will find another Rb.

As a player Ray is the GOAT at his position but in that same speech he talked about trailblazers and pathfinders and how they are different when in reality they are synonymous. He is wrong. Miami was built on changing minds, Howard started by convincing everyone that instead of leaving Miami, the kids needed to stay in Miami. This crosses over whether kids are local or not. How good would we be this year if we had changed Cook's mind? Like I said we need to convince McFarland and Juedy that they need to be Canes.

Glad you repeatedly argue semantics with one of our greatest recruiting resources.......yes, I know, he can't recruit, again semantics.

Yeah that was uncalled for on my end. Have no problem admitting that.

Funny statement by Ray Lewis. As I remember, he was going into his summer after graduation with no college plans other than perhaps a JUCO. I don't think he had very good grades, so schools dropped off of him. I don't think anybody signed him. He had never been to the city of Miami. Asst Coach Tommy Tuberville went to Lakeland and talked to him and his HS coach about going to Miami. I kind of remember Lewis as this pretty good HS safety who was mostly interested in FSU.

Miami got onto him late and were able to sign him and I guess, get him into school.

Now, this is many years ago, I'm basing this on recollection, but Ray Lewis hardly knew anything about UM or the City of Miami. He certainly was not a "born" Cane guy. We probably still had to do something of a selling job because there apparently had not been much contact between UM and Ray before that point, which was well after the end of the recruiting season. It wasn't hard to sell him, I guess, because he didn't have a lot of options at that point. So, he listened seriously to Tuberville who was an assistant at the time under Erickson.

One of the most fortuitous things ever to happen in the history of college recruiting.

I think I've got the history pretty accurate, but I remember the various news reports and some of Ray's quotes at the time.

KD did not want to go to Tenn.!!

He might have committed to them at some point, or at least the prognosticators were predicting he would sign there. I have a recollection that after he committed to Miami, Tennessee went after him late because they lost a commit. I guess maybe he did not have a firm offer from Tennessee before UM got the commit. I know he and Tennessee were mentioned together a lot.

Bartow says that the family depleted their summer funds on the opening.

Easy with the rational counterpoints. They don't burn as well as rampant speculation about boogybagmen and inferiority complexes.

Yeah, I don't know how these kids and their families afford all this travel. They constantly take trips around the country. The families, in most cases, are not rich. They might be middle class in the D.C. area, which is a very expensive area in which to live. The kid goes to parochial school--is the tuition waived because he plays football or does the family have to pay for him to go there? The only travel expense that is paid for by the university is the official visit.

Best thing we can do is get DeeJay Dallas down here on the same OV date, whenever that is. Probably the most effective thing at this point

Ray Lewis played Lb and rb at Kathleen . He wasn't a highschool safety. He was the best lb in polkcounty . Kathleen was a highschool rival so he was well known.

Depends.
Some parents have to pay.
In the case of other kids, especially those who happen to be talented athletes from modest economic situations, it can be anything from a
discount to no tuition charged.
I know a little about one of DeMatha's rivals Good Counsel as a good friend's son was there to play tennis and she told me she helped
pay tuition by doing alot of volunteer work for the school (working concession stands, charity work, etc).

Did i say he was gone? Just said it aint good he wasnt there

Not necessarily bad.
Really, means nothing.

Well he just named bama his leader so there is some concern

I'm sure you've been following college fb and recruiting for as long as most
on this board, so you know what a kid names as leader 7 months before signing
day means nothing.
Even if he named UM as the leader, it would also mean nothing at this point since
we still need to put on a good product on the field.
Also, this is a DeMatha kid, and they usually don't play games.
They take their visits and then commit, not the other way around.

Ok? So we cant be concerned that a kid who just named bama his leader after having us as his top who doesnt show up to our biggest recruiting weekend in awhile????

Be concerned if you like.
I am not going to tell ya how to react.
But I think some folks are getting carried away with this event.
No question Paradise Camp was a wonderful idea and apparently it was splendidly executed.
Connecting all of our former greats with these kids is wonderful because for once
they aren't being brainwashed by that SEC propaganda.
We have our own culture, as rich as those trailerpark schools.
Having said this, folks are acting like this event was one of those official visits
in January, a mere few weeks before signing day.
It isn't that crucial, really.
Because some kid does or does not show up is not really a big deal at the
end of the day.
Only thing to worry about in the middle of July is grilling, beer and nice days at
the beach.
In the meantime, in a couple of months we need to worry about winning, avoiding
embarassing national tv drubbings and showing up to games.

See now you are just downgrading the event, you don't understand how big this event was for the university and our recruiting, he has go e to other schools events, im with you that there is still time and im not saying hes gone, but the timing of him naming a leader and him not showing up can raise some red flags

The dude just flew home to Maryland from the Opening in Oregon and missed a trip to Miami the following weekend.

Maybe he couldn't take another trip just yet or had things going on at home. There are far too many reasons why he might have missed the camp and NO ONE here knows the details behind that. Good or bad.

Some people just want to hypothesize and ***** like 5 year old girls. Sack up!!!

Does he have to pay out of pocket to travel here? I believe so, unless it's an official trip. This as just a camp....

Correct. Everyone came here on their own dime and payed a small fee to participate. I have no idea about his financial situation but it's not like he was driving over from Tampa.

If McFarland is so **** bent on Bama, then let him learn the hard way...
He'll never see the field behind 5-star Bo Scarborough, 5-star Damien Harris & 5-star Najee Harris.
At some point, we have to stop getting all bent out of shape over these kids who play games with us.
I only want players who want to be here, I don't give a **** how highly ranked they are, you're either born a Cane or you're not.
If he wants to be another Bama back that gets ran into the ground only to become an NFL bust, then so be it.

You poor soul. This weekend must of been horrible for you. An entire weekend spent trying to convince kids to come to the school. All who would go to other schools if we weren't talking to them weekly if not daily.

No actually it wasn't... My comment was about kids being wishy washy, I'm saying I don't care if they come here or not because I prefer the kids who actually want to be here over the ones who are unsure.
Go check any Paradise Camp thread, I was more than ecstatic the entire weekend.

With what Bama has at RB and who's coming the next two years, McFarland should see garbage playing time by 2019

If true . . . do not want.
