Because people are asshats and either thrive on stupid or 15 minutes of fame being the one/ones who approved something ridiculous.

The is the most commonly used word in the English language. You shouldn't be allowed to trademark anything like that. Period. I would PURPOSELY use it on clothes and fight it in court to be a prick.

It’s the pictograph that’s trademarked, not the word “the.” Dumbasses. AND It’s only trademarked for use on tshirts and hats sold at stores that specialize in selling college sports apparel. All of that you could get by reading the OP and asking some basic common sense questions. Bunch of geniuses up in here lol.
