What are the board's thoughts on Lorenzo Ward? (South Carolina)

Was "co-"DC this year with Hoke, DC from 09-11 - dude had some tough-*** defenses... Opinions?

Can he bring skai with him?

Did not follow SC this year, but there D the last few years has really carried the team. And yes they were tough as ****. You know they had Richts attention.

He's defenses has been horrible at South Carolina since clowney has been gone

Weird - dude had some ELITE defenses until 2013 then the wheels kinda fell off for some reason. Don't follow enough So. Carolina football to know why...

I guess, but even someone as talented as Clowney wasn't the sole reason for their success, and Ward fielded some good defenses pre-Clowney.

I don't mean to thread jack, but since we are talking potential DCs......what about Paul Rhoads?. He was a DC in the SEC before taking the Iowa State job.....his kids always seemed to play hard and he's recruited Florida.....just a thought..

NO WAY!! He switched South Carolina's Defense to a 3-4 two gap after Clowney left. This was the defense he originally wanted and Spurrier called him out about it. In 2014, USC defense looked exactly like D'Onofrio's.

I live in Columbia and have had to watch quite a few of their games. Spurrier brought Hoke on this season to be a co-coordinator with Ward. They then switched back to the 4-3.

Solid coach.
Franchise and I chatted about him many threads ago.
Lots of good coaches from both sides of the ball have worked under him too, including
Tom Herman, so he's a good football guy who would be a valuable asset to staff.

He is the defensive version of Indiana's Kevin Wilson: solid coaches working at schools that
are never going to win much.

I wouldn't be excited about hiring Lornzo Ward.

But I would absolutely take Paul Rhoads at DC.

What about Ron Zook? I remember LSU looking at him before hiring Steele. I believe he is with the Packers.

I brought him up a couple weeks ago. I liked his defenses at Pitt in particular. His players love him and they play hard for him. Good football guy who doesn't get much attention because he's not on the young hipster list.
